Sherry Pittman

A Time to Be BornSherry Jean Pittman, daughter of the late James and Bessie Pittman, was born on January 18, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland. God in his infinite wisdom suddenly transitioned Sherry home on Friday, May 22, 2009. Her son, Derrick Carrington and grandson, Baby Derrek Carrington, preceded her in death. Her brother, Linwood E. Pittman also preceded her in death.A Time to PlantSherry was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Dunbar Senior High School. She also studied at Baltimore City Community College. Her employment career included positions at various businesses in Baltimore; but for the last seventeen years, Maryland State Government at the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation in the Office of the Board of Appeals employed Sherry. Sherry was well known at DLLR, and was held in high regard of her kind and compassionate manner and for the integrity she brought to her performance on behalf of Maryland citizens.A Time to EmbraceSherry enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. But her three sons were the source of her greatest joy. There was nothing she would not do for “my three sons” –as she would say. She loved them more than life, and they loved her in equal measure. She was devastated at the loss of her son, Derrek. Derrek showered her with an array of gifts. Wherever Sherry went, she was escorted and chauffeured by Brian. They were inseparable. At home, Kevin cooked and would spend many hours keeping her company. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews also brought a lot of pleasure to her life. Her lively dancing and singing-mostly with a comedic flavor to it-was all they needed for entertainment. Family gatherings were full of joy, excitement and lots of laughter, because Sherry made it happen.Sherry was very caring, nurturing and devoted to her family. Sherry was exceptionally dedicated to her mother; and lovingly managed the daily needs of her mother through a lengthy illness until her mother’s passing several years ago. The depth of her love and devotion toward family was evidenced by the care Sherry gave to her nieces, T’Ericka and Jahyra, whom she was raising as her own. She had a very loving and supportive relationship with her siblings that honored her mother’s wish that they all love and care for each other unconditionally.For many years, She was a member of Trinity Apostolic Faith Church and loved God with all of her heart.
