Shelia Gladney

SHEILA GLADNEY departed this earth on January 13, 2025 after a lengthy battle with chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure. She was born in East Baltimore, Maryland on April 2, 1957, the second youngest of eight children born to Louise Gladney and James L Gladney Sr. After the tragic death of her mother in the early 1970’s Sheila moved to the South Baltimore Community of Brooklyn Homes to live with her oldest sister Elaine Gladney. Elaine nurtured, guided and provided for Sheila and their youngest sibling, Kathryn Gladney, while raising two young sons of her own, Richard and Antonio. Sheila was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in East Baltimore where at the early age of 16, she was given an internship with the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company. Sheila excelled as a junior electrician and was offered an 18 month extension and a full time position upon her graduation. She graduated from Dunbar in June of 1977. After graduation Sheila found her higher calling which became her life passion, The Love of the Christian Faith. She was baptized at the age of 18. During her faith journey she met her lifelong friend and confidant Jean Bullard at Curtis Bay Church of God, in Curtis Bay, Maryland in 1985. She would go on to fellowship and become a member of numerous churches such as, Full Gospel Pentecostal Tabernacle in Dundalk, Maryland, Landmark Pentecostal Church of Christ in Millersville, Maryland and Open Bible Tabernacle in Ellicott City, Maryland. Throughout her spiritual voyage she would often display her musical talent as a percussionist playing the drums for church services. Sheila met her Christian mentor and good friend Jean Bullard’s mother, affectionately known as Sister Williams, whom she admired and deeply respected. Sheila worked for Popeyes Famous Chicken in the Brooklyn Community. She was known as a dedicated hardworking employee with excellent customer service. She could often be seen walking to work in all types of weather speaking to those she met along the way offering a kind word or a helping hand to those in need. She retired from Popeyes after 25 years of service on disability due to the onset of her illness. After her retirement Sheila remained living in her sister’s home with her nephew Richard Dennis Walker Sr. her great niece Alicia Elaine Maddox and ultimately her caregiver and niece Felicia L. Taylor. She lived in the Brooklyn community for 46 years before moving back to East Baltimore in 2023. Sheila loved reading the Bible, talking to her family and friends on the phone, listening to Gospel music and watching Tennessee North on Youtube. For all that knew her as Cap, Duffy, Aunt Sheila, Ms. Sheila and Ms. Gladney she will truly be missed. To those who loved her she will be remember as she wanted to be, as a true believer in God fighting this earthly battle for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ until her end. Gladney Sr, (brothers) Thomas L Gladney and James L Gladney Jr. (sisters) Elaine Gladney, Joyce Gladney, Shirley Gladney and Kathryn Gladney, beloved (nephew) Antonio Troy Sr and his cherished (wife) Renae Humphries-Troy. She leaves to mourn her remaining sibling (brother) Jesse Gladney, her caregiver and (niece) Felicia L. Taylor, beloved (great-niece) Alicia Elaine Maddox, close (cousins) Carolyn and Maria Heidalberg, (good friend) Jean Bullard, (aunts) Yvonne Willingham, Corrine Gladney, Magdalene Gladney, Lyna Bell Gladney, Ella Gladney, (uncle) Joe W. Gladney, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
