Sheila L. Rather

SHEILA LORRAINE RATHER was born on September 25, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Hilda M. Rather and Howard C. Rather. She departed this life on Saturday, August 10, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Sheila worked diligently throughout her life. She was employed with the Baltimore City Correctional Services, Social Services (Guilford Ave), and Johnson Transportation where she finished off her career caring for those whom became ill like her. In 1971, she met the love of her life, Mr. Robert Brunson Jr. From this union God bestowed a son upon them. In 1975, together they introduced Robert Deangelo Rather to the world. She loved her son Robert, affectionately known as “Remy” very dearly and always said she did her best. Because of Sheila’s enduring love for Remy, she named her house cat that was always by her side “Little Remy.” Sheila, known as “Aunt Sheila” to everyone, loved cooking (especially the green beans w/smoked neck bones), caring for her elders, her oldies but goodies music, laughing out with her family and friends, girls day out (lunch and shoes), praise and worship services, last but not least Sheila loved to be in control of things. She was a true and loyal friend and will be sincerely missed. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Robert Deangelo Rather; one granddaughter, DeSmonae Rather; two sisters, Gail Rather and Meredith Rather; one brother, Kevin “Ty” Rather (Tammy); one special daughter- in-law, Taychan Jordan Rather; two nieces, Christina Rather and Sharon Wheeler; six nephews, Kevin Wheeler (Lisa), Bobby Wheeler, Keith Wheeler, Wendell Wheeler, John Johnson (Shelby) and Donnell Johnson (Rochelle); one special son, Demery “Ty” Lee; six great-nieces, Nicole, Karen, Stephie, Salena, Camie and Diana; five great- nephews, Rodney Rather, Robert, Kevin and Keith Wheeler II and Joshua Johnson; eight stepgrands, Jordan Berry, Kevin Brunson, Tykeisha Bannister, Shydreasa Thompson, Deonte Thompson, Myiesha Bell, Rashad and Damarus; and one special care provider, Travanti Williams (Queen).
