Sharon Denise Smith

SHARON DENISE SMITH was born on January 11, 1958, to the late Rommie and Flora Williams in Langley, Virginia. Sharon was the middle of three children as well as the only girl. Her oldest brother Andre preceded her in death when she was just a teen. On Saturday, December 3, 2022, God called His angel Sharon home to rest. Affectionately known as “Sherry”, she will truly be missed. Sharon, along with her family, eventually moved to Baltimore where she continued her education graduating from Northwestern High School in 1976. Because of her love for people, Sharon was inspired to become a nurse. She took her education seriously and attended Baltimore City Community College, Towson State and Bowie State, later receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from Coppin State University. In the midst of such a busy life, Sharon still found time to become a dedicated member of the nursing sorority Chi Eta Phi during her undergrad years. In 2003, Sharon received her Masters of Science degree at Coppin State University and became a Nurse Practitioner. Sharon began her life’s work in 1991 at Provident Hospital which later became Liberty Medical Center. After spreading her expertise to a few hospitals in the Baltimore surrounding areas, Sharon moved to Spring Grove Hospital. She graciously accepted and prospered as the Head Nurse until she retired in 2020. Being a Christian was Sharon’s pride and joy. She walked, talked, and gave witness to the goodness of her Lord and Savior. Her favorite book in the bible was Ephesians. Sharon was baptized at an early age and remained active in church. In 2009, she completed her discipleship classes at Morning Star Baptist Church where Bishop Dwayne Debnam is the pastor. She joined Fulton Baptist Church on June 12, 2011, under the leadership of Rev. Julian Rivera and continued under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Clif Urquhart. She wore many hats at Fulton Baptist Church including Secretary of the Women’s Ministry, co-led the annual Health Expo for “The Month of the Woman”, member of the Women’s Day Choir & Christmas Concert Choir and had just accepted the role of Vice President of the Special Activities Committee. Family was everything to Sharon. At the age of 19, Sharon met Leo Litaker and they wed five years later. This union created 3 children, Shomari, Shakir, and Kenya. She also loved Leo’s three daughters Denise, Lysandra and Malkia as her own. In 1991, she meet the true love of her life, Tyrone Smith. Sharon and Tyrone were joined at the hip. Whenyou saw one, you definitely saw the other. They wed on May 18, 2002, and Sharon with open arms gained three additional blessings of love Tiffany, Tyrone, and Tyron. In addition to her love for family, she had a great love for life. Sharon loved and spent endless hours gardening with Tyrone growing watermelon, cantaloupe, cabbage, cucumbers, kale, tomatoes-- you name it! Just last year, they planted The Rose of Sharon (a Hibiscus shrub). Her favorite color was shades of green. She also delighted in interior decorating, landscaping, DIY projects, cookouts, and shopping (especially the clearance racks). Family time was epic from game nights, beach adventures, and funloving family trips. She enjoyed butter pecan & eggnog ice cream. Sharon participated in her high school class reunion events and was always ready to cheer for the Ravens. Her grandma would say, “Sharon never met a stranger” because she made everyone feel like they were a part of the family. Sharon wrote many pages of her first book, but didn’t get a chance to finish as God opened her next chapter in HIS novel. She leaves to cherish her most memorable memories: her loving husband, Tyrone Smith; children, Shomari, Shakir (Christina), Kenya, Denise, Lysandra, Malkia, Tiffany, Tyrone, Tyron; grandchildren, Dominique, Danielle, Kiana, Vincent, Caron, Teal, Cameron, Kori, Jeremiah, Jeremi, Jeremiane, Jeremiere, Naomi; her loving brother, Keith Williams; Brothers-in law Sterling (preceded in death),Grafton Jr. (preceded in death),Chuckie (Karen), Tony (preceded in death), Mark (Carmen), Donnie (Rhonda); Sisters-in law, Vivian D. (preceded in death), Mary, Lisa (preceded in death), Lynda (David), Denita (JoJo), her best buddy in the whole world for over 50 years, Dr. Mary Dunnock; also special in her heart close childhood friend Lynda Davenport; her children’s best friends aka her bonus kids; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly and just as importantly, YOU.
