Sharon E. Haskins-Brown

Sharon Ellen Haskins-Brown was born on July 17th, 1958 to Cleora and Joseph Haskins, Sr. On February 12, 2018, God in His infinite wisdom closed the eyes of our beloved. Sharon's early education was received at St. Ann's Catholic School, St. Katherine's and Roland Park School. Throughout her education Sharon was very creative in the arts. She loved drawing, singing and writing poetry. Her poem, "The Me Nobody Knows" she was proudest of and won many awards. She was always very active, joining Polar Bear Track, and Gymnastics. Sharon graduated from Western High School in 1976, then attended Morgan State University, later finding her passion in art, hair and beauty which led her to the Baltimore School of Cosmetology. She was one of the top Cosmetologists in the City of Baltimore. She worked for Studio 808, known for its prominent clientele from Oprah Winfrey to Rick James and his dancers. There she became known for her creative hair designs in braiding and hair extension. Upon the closing of Studio 808, Sharon worked for Noxell Company, which later became Proctor and Gamble, while continuing to do hair for her faithful clients privately. Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. William Brown and sang on the E.P.Butler Choir. Known for her beautiful smile, cheerful spirit, and thoughtful ways, many drew to her home and heart. She enjoyed modeling, cooking, entertaining friends, and making art. In 1991, Sharon married the late Richard A. Brown and from that union she was blessed with one child, Richa Brown and two stepchildren, Ricko and Everett Brown. Later in 1995, she joined The New Psalmist Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Walter Scott Thomas. In 2008, Sharon's physical health began to change and her challenge with Scleroderma became her lifelong journey, effecting her mobility and sight. She regularly attended bible study, and discipleship, along with morning worship, even through her illness. In 2010, Sharon was declared legally blind but with every obstacle in her life, she victoriously faced it with her faith. She graduated from the Blind Industries & Services of Maryland (BISM) and soon became an Advocate and Ambassador for BISM, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), and the Scleroderma Foundation. She was a dedicated and passionate volunteer for Roberta's House and was always seeking to help someone else. As her illness progressed, Sharon always remained positive and her famous quote was, "I cannot give up, it's not an option". She amazed even her physicians as she remarkably beat the odds of her prognosis and gave God the Glory. It was natural for her to encourage others and her faith was unwavering till the end. She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved and devoted daughter, Richa; two stepsons, Ricko and Everett; siblings, Evon Jackson, Barbara Bolden (Hugh), Patricia Haskins, Kim Myers, Joseph Haskins (Rhonda) and Gregory Haskins (Amy); in-laws, Kathleen Parham and Patricia Brown; devoted niece, Narsha Baily; childhood friend, Annette March-Grier; devoted friend, Carolyn Brown; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
