Obituary: In Loving Memory of Sarah M. Ray Sarah M. Ray blessed her way into this world on February 29, 1928, in Stanford, Connecticut, to James G. and Nettie Bray (both deceased), bringing with her a spirit as rare as Leap Year Day! With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, godmother, friend, and confidante, as she was called to Heaven on February 14, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 95. Sarah gave her life to Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Stamford, Connecticut. While living in Maryland she served God as an usher and missionary at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, Maryland. Sarah embodied the spirit of service and compassion, touching the lives of many with her kindness and generosity. Her unwavering faith sustained her through life's trials, guiding her with grace and humility. Sarah was not just any woman; she was a symphony of sass, humor, and resilience. Her feisty demeanor and boundless energy were infectious, lighting up every room she entered with her laughter and zest for life. Her presence was a beacon of joy, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled. She was blessed to share her life with Rylie Ray (deceased) for 44 years. A devoted matriarch, Sarah cherished her family above all else. She was the beating heart of our family, showering us with unconditional love, wisdom, and unwavering support. Her daughters Jacqueline Wilson and Linda Elam (deceased), were her pride and joy and partners in crime, sharing countless adventures and memories together. To her grandchildren, Roy Moss, Jr. (deceased), Robin Ballard and Ayasha Sledge (LaMont Sledge), she was a source of inspiration and endless laughter, always there to lift them up and cheer them on through life's journey. Sarah's love extended to her great-grandchildren, Niasia Ellis, Zaya Anderson and Sanaa Sledge, with silliness and warmth. She delighted in watching them grow and flourish. She took immense pride in their accomplishments, celebrating each milestone as if it were her own. Chevvone Bray held a special place in her heart as her godson, a bond that transcended mere kinship. Sarah's love extended far beyond her immediate family, encompassing a wide circle of nieces, nephews, friends. She touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, leaving an indelible mark on every heart she encountered. While our hearts ache with grief, we take solace in knowing that Sarah's spirit lives on in the memories she created and the love she shared. Though she may have bid farewell to this earthly realm, her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire us for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Sarah. Your light will shine in our hearts forever.
