Sarah Parrott

Sarah Parrott, the daughter of the late Junious and Celie Wills, was born March 30, 1927 in Mayesville, South Carolina. She departed this life on October 16, 2003 after a brief illness. She was the eldest of thirteen children, five of whom preceded her in death.Sarah received her formal education at Mayesville High School. In 1946, she married Eddie Parrot, the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life. Out of this union four children were born Junious, who preceded her in death. Annie, George, and Jannie. In 1952, Sarah along with her husband and children migrated to Baltimore, Maryland. Once settled in Baltimore, she began working in the garment industry at the Raleigh Manufacturing Company and the Misty Harbor Company from which she retired. After retirement, she worked part-time with the Department of Aging as and aide to the elderly.Shortly after coming to Baltimore, Sarah and her husband, Eddie Parrott joined the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church. Sarah loved her church and served in many capacities, such as the Nurses unit, The Missionary Club as a member of the Deaconess Board.Sarah was the eldest of thirteen; she learned a sense of duty and responsibility. She believed and taught that “we are our brother’s keeper.” Thus she spent most of her life helping and serving others. She taught her children this lesson early in their lives. Sarah was also a self-appointed community activist. She tried very hard to maintain a family oriented neighborhood. No one had to guess what she felt or thought because she was outspoken and spoke her mind openly. No matter how much she chastised the young and encouraged them to clear the corner and move on, she commanded and was given the utmost respect. Consequently neighbors young and old watched out for “Miss Sarah.”Family and friends knew Sarah as a caring and loving mother, wife, sister and friend. She had many lasting friendships. Sarah, you will surely be missed.Her memory will be cherished by: two daughters, Annie Akinwale and Jannie Parrott both of Baltimore, Maryland; one son, George Parrott of Baltimore, Maryland; one son-in-law, Dominic Akinwale of Baltimore, Maryland; two granddaughters, Tia Delly and Robin Akinwale both from Baltimore, Maryland; (one grandson, Junious Parrott, preceded her in death); one great-grandson, Donavin A. Bunn; six sisters, Pearl Peterson of Hampstead, New York, Tesline Herrington, Neddie LeSane and Francis Dean all of Sumter, South Carolina, Ida Wilson and Julia Brown both of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, Elias Wells of Mayesville, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Wells and Sue Mae Wells both of Mayesville, South Carolina; six brothers-in-law, Henry Peterson of Hampstead, New York, David Herrington, Carlisle Le Sane and Johnnie Dean all of Sumter, South Carolina, William Brown and Charlie Frierson both of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
