Sarah R. Murphy

SARAH BEATRICE MURPHY was born on April 10, 1934 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina through the union of the late Joseph Avery and Mary Cooper Avery. She was educated in the Nash/Edgecombe County Public School System and graduated from Phillips High School in Battleboro, North Carolina upon her Mother’s death and after graduating high school, Sarah moved to Brooklyn, New York. Sarah met and married the love of her life, Bobby Murphy and through this union 5 sons were born: Ronnie, Steven, Michael, Tyrone and Terence. Murphy family moved to Baltimore in August,969 to begin a new chapter in their lives. Sarah accepted and confessed CHRIST in her life at an early age and she always encouraged her family and friends to do the same. She continued to serve the LORD all of her life. She was a loving wife and caring Mother. She would do anything for her kids. Sarah was also an outstanding teacher. She taught at the Loving Care Day Nursery for 28 years. She was also employed with the Baltimore City Health Department for 6 years, until the time of her retirement in 2012. To know her was to love her. She was fllled with knowledge and imparted her wisdom on anyone who would listen. She loved politics and could debate with the best about a better way to run this country and she was a very good cook who loved to see people eat her food. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of over 35 years; three aunts who were more like mothers, Blanche Alford, Elizabeth Byrd and Ella Mae Pittman; one brother, Raymond Avery; one sister, Willie Ray Peterkin; also two sons, Ronnie Murphy and Steven Murphy. On Friday March 24, 2023 GOD saw ft to take Sarah from labor to reward. She will be sorely missed. She has left to cherish her memory her devoted sons, Michael Murphy, Tyrone Murphy and Terence Murphy; her grandchildren, Jacquetta Murphy, Shakera Murphy, Shantia Murphy, Mikesha Murphy, Zion Murphy and Lance Parker; her sisters-in-law, Minnie Bland and Blondell Murphy of Danbury, Connecticut; her nieces Linda Scott (Eugene) of Brooklyn, New York Gail Cockerl (Mack) of Rosedale, New York and Carol McKenzie (Paul) of Hamilton, New Jersey; her cousin, who always was more like a sister, Ruby Bullock of Baltimore, Maryland; a very dear best friend of over 53 years, Mary Lee Baker of Baltimore, Maryland; as well as a host of great grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. We are grateful that GOD allowed her to spend 88 meaningful years on this Earth.
