Sarah Buckson

Sarah Buckson, daughter of Calvin Jones and Nancy (Davis) Jones (both deceased) was born on May 30, 1920 in Fairfield, South Carolina. She departed this life on July 20, 2002 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Sarah, fondly called “Sweet,” gave herself to Christ at an early age. She was baptized at New Pilgrim Church in Black Stock, South Carolina where she first met the love of her life, Nesbitt H. Buckson Sr. Nesbitt and Sarah were married in December of 1949 and lived in holy matrimony until he preceded her in death on June 29, 1999. Sarah moved to Baltimore, Maryland and joined Israel Baptist Church where she attended every Sunday until her illness made it impossible for her to attend. Sarah was educated in Black Stock, South Carolina and employed with the Baltimore City School System’s Dietary Department until she retired. Sarah and Nesbitt decided that she would retire when her first grandchild Linwood (Fugi) was born in order to help raise him. Sarah also helped to raise her granddaughter Lolita. Sarah loved all of her grandkids and they affectionately called her “Momma”. Sarah will always be remembered by all of her children and her family because everyone could always come to her to talk about problems. Sarah had a clever way of making everyone feel that they were right and she never took sides, unless it pertained to her grandchildren. To Sarah, her grandchildren were always right.Sarah (Sweet) leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Graves; five sins, Nesbitt Jr. (Virginia Beach, VA), Sylvester, Ronald, Marion (Philadelphia, PA) and Thomas J. Buckson, Sr.; twelve grandchildren Linwood, Eric, Shawn, Sylvia, Terry, Terrill, Nakisha, Lolita, Sherita, Crystal, Thomas Jr. and Tyler Buckson; son-in-law, Charles Graves; daughters-in-law, Victoria, Robin, Pamela, Karen and Rolanda; one sister, Nancy Jones; four sisters-in-law, Ardis Watkins, Pearl Cox, Mary Crosdale and Helen McElhaney (Bronx, NY); two brothers-in-law, LaFond Watkins and Gaston McElhaney(Bronx, NY); thirteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. We, the Buckson children, would truly like to thank Sarah’s caretakers Jan Taylor, Valerie Murray and Germaine Rideout. We would also like to thank Dee Dee. We all love you and we thank you for loving and taking care of our mother as your own. We never worried about our mother’s care because you were always there for her.
