Sandra Ann Kenney

Legacy of Life Sandra Braxton Kenney, 65, of North Chesterfield claimed the promise of the resurrection on March 28, 2021. She passed away peacefully under the care of hospice and surrounded by her family at home. Affectionately known as ’Sand’ and ‘NaNa’ by her grandchildren, was a native of Richmond, Virginia. She was born on April 9, 1955. She was educated in the Richmond Public School System and graduated for John F. Kennedy High School 1973. Sand attended J. Sargent Reynolds Community College and went on to Virginia Commonwealth University where she obtained her undergraduate Degree (Bachelor of Arts), and received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994. Sandra was employed with FFV, US Postal Services, Medical Collage of Virginia Clinical Pathology Lab, Holistic Health Care, and Paradise Home Care, where she retired after twenty plus years of dedicated service. Sandra excepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as an adult and united with the Thirty-First Street Baptist Church, where she served until her health declined. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Always reaching out to offer advice, comfort, mentor, and an avid shopper for her clients and family. Her greatest joy in life was supporting her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to having her grandchildren at the house for visits all the time. The family would gather at her home every year for Christmas brunch. She loved to have the grandkids help decorate the house during the holidays and make Christmas cookies. She was a collector of Black Christmas angels and Santa Claus; they were displayed all throughout the home. Sandra, was a true servant in her profession, providing aid when she saw a need, whether to family or a stranger on the street. She provided resources for medical attention, clothing, nourishment, and would assist in directing home health care for many. She always put other people needs before hers. She would travel out of state to visit family members and accompany them to doctor’s visits every chance she got. Sand loved going to the beach to celebrate her anniversary every year. She would gather the family and spend the day at Buckroe Beach, a tradition that started when she was a child. She would vacation every year to Myrtle Beach with her brother Lynwood in August. Her birthdays were spent dining out trying to find the perfect crab cake. And if she didn’t like the restaurant she would surely let you know (Bookbinders, Boathouse etc). Even though they were of her choosing. (smile) She was preceded in death by her parents Hezekiah, Sr. and Hortense Braxton; two sisters, Elsie Braxton and Elsie E. Hall; five brothers, Irvin, Hezekiah Jr., Norman, Lynwood, and Ryland Braxton. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and loving husband of 46 years Randy H. Kenney, Sr.; two sons, Randy Jr., and Torrey Kenney. In addition, Sandra was blessed with five grandchildren, Amaya, Jamir, Milan, Lebron, and Trinity; one godson, Derrick E. Johnson; sibling are two sisters, Mable Carter, and Carolyn Johnson; four brothers, Alvin (Cynthia), Herbert (Wanda), Michael (Ruth Ann), and Warren Braxton; sisters-in-law, Lucretia, Andrea, Annette Braxton, Doris Ann Kenney, and Ava Rasheed; devoted niece, Tracy Kenney, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Carolyn L. Johnson “Ladybug” best friend from childhood.
