Sandra Claudine Bowers

Sandra Claudine Holley Bowers 65,of Richmond, VA went to be with her Lord on April 4th,2015 at 6:52 PM. She was an inpatient at Chippenham Hospital when she breathed her last breath as her husband stood over her. She was supported by her loving family and caregivers. She was born in Newport News,VA and went to school in Hampton. Being the last to be born of the Holley clan, she was the highlight of pure enjoyment to the family household as this beautiful child was sent to bless the family. She enjoyed a childhood of romp and play with two brothers and an older sister,Joyce. The two girls would often spend time learning to make clothes with the help of Mrs. Margie Wade and Mrs. Jarnice Chapman who were neighbors. She spent a lot of time in the Home Economics department of her high school,excelling all the way. What a joy to make one's own clothes and she was good at it. After High School,she became interested in Interior Design. The boys would spend their time playing around on the golf course as caddies,and picking up any extra work they could do. Sandra came to know her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age,perhaps due to the influences of her grandmother,Madam Lula B. Price of Newport News,VA,who was a singing evangelist and cleric. After high school,Sandra traveled a lot,and even help jobs in the state of Hawaii,while attending school there also. Upon returning back to the states,she was a banker for a long while,and worked retail jobs,for Leggetts,Hit or Miss,Belk,Dillards and many other stores. The majority of her time however was spent matriculating at the United Stated Postal Service of where she gave 371/2 years of service. It is commendable to note that she used no “sick leave” during the years 1989,1990,1991,and 1992. She began her postal time in June of 1976 and retired on February 28,2014. During that time she was the recipient of many prestigious awards; some of which are Certificate of Appreciation of 1995;1998;2008 and 2010. She received the Special Achievement Award of 1999;Spot Award of 2008;Letter of Appreciation Award of 2006;and most prestigious and sought after EAS Award for the years of 1999,2000,2001,and 2003. Sandra was extremely beneficial in the hiring of new employees at the Richmond P& DC. Some of her awards were in recognition for these accomplishments. In addition to those already listed, there are a host of other cousins and friends, who are left to cherish her memory as well, Mrs. Michele(Brian)Bridges,Paris,and Brian,Jr.,Mrs. Doris Summey,Harold,Jr.,Michael and Rhonda,Shirley Whitaker and Janie Price.
