Samuel Martin Scofield

Samuel Martin Scofield, devoted husband and father, was born on June 18, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Mary Ethel Scofield and William Schofield. He departed this life on Monday, July 19, 2010 after a brief illness. Samuel was educated in the Baltimore Public School System. Samuel served in the United States Navy for several years before being honorably discharged. He received several honors: the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Samuel was an excellent provider. He worked for the C&P Telephone Company (now known as Verizon) for more than 30 years he later retired. Samuel met Isabelle Herndon and was united in holy matrimony. Out of this union, three children were born. He also had 10 children from a previous marriage. Samuel was a loving husband and always wanted the best for his children. Samuel was a faithful member of the St. Paul Apostolic Faith Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Williams s. Barnes, Sr. He was baptized in Jesus Name and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. Samuel held many positions in the church: a custodial worker, Sunday school teacher, President of the Brotherhood and Elder. He remained at St. Paul until the establishment of his won ministry. On November 22, 1987, Elder Samuel Scofield established the St. Peter Church of Repentance and faithfully served as Pastor for more than 22 years until his departure. His ministry began in the home of Min. Harry and Sis. Linda Stevenson at 2226 East Chase Street. Elder Scofield was ordained Bishop under the leadership of the late Bishop Walter Coleman in August 1998. In September 1988, St. Peter moved to 1053 North Milton Avenue, and in December 2001, to its current location at 3008 Greenmount Avenue. Out of 22 years of preaching countless messages, his most memorable message was, “Heaven is worth suffering for.” some of his favorite songs were: By and By; He Loved Mes So; When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus; and His Eye is on the Sparrow. Bishop Scofield was a true warrior of Christ and will be deeply missed. Bishop Samuel M. Scofield was preceded in death by his sister, Doretha Scofield and two daughters, Samuella Scofield and Vernice Schofield. Bishop Samuel M. Scofield leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mother Isabelle Scofield of 46 years; two sons, Samuel M. Scofield, Jr. and Erwin Scofield (Loretta); nine daughters, Bernadine Powell, Maureen LeCount, Caroline herring, Cynthia Parker (Robert), Keturah McCleary (George), Josephine Turner, Zipporah Shaw (Tony), Isabelle Withers (Anthony, Sr.), Renee Williams (Lamont); one sister, Mary Jane Andrews; five stepchildren, Arnold Warren, John Warren, Tommy Warren, Martin Warren and Linda Stevenson (Harry, Sr.); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
