Fr. Samuel Lupico

I am who I am, and I was who I was, because of the family and friends, associates and teachers I had on the journey. Priesthood was a wonderful odyssey, a powerful and meaningful journey. I am grateful to all those with whom I journeyed, those who stopped at various oasis’s, confronted difficult terrain, shared joy of unspeakable beauty and wept with me at the pain and sorrows of life. I will mention no one, I will remember each, I hold you in my heart for all eternity. I beg pardon of those I hurt, betrayed, misunderstood, or judged. In turn, I forgive all who have harmed or hurt me. All debts are cancelled. I was formed and taught, affirmed and challenged, privileged to serve wonderful people in Trenton’s Chambersburg, State Street and Martin House. The journey was rich in Colonia and East Millstone. In Baltimore, Greenmount Avenue, Old York Road, and Poplar Grove gave me a hometown. At St. Ann’s, I learned how to be a father through my adopted son. At Blessed Sacrament, I found recovery and a whole new way of life. In Davidsonville, I learned how to live in America and understand, in a whole new way, the American Dream. At St. Edward’s, I learned how to live through the pain and find the joy of a beautiful and wounded community. At Stella Maris, I learned how to embrace the diminishment of old age and to be at peace with the journey of dying. At St. Pius X, I learned how to be grateful and still a vibrant old man bringing and interpreting the Gospel in ways previously not experienced. At St. Mary’s in Govans, I found a safe home and community. It has all been wonderful. Blessed in such varied and rich communities, the journey through time in preparation for eternity was mystical, fulfilling, and profound. Thank you all. I go in peace. I go with great curiosity about what lies ahead. I go sure of a loving God, longing to be embraced by God’s Life-giving arms.
