Sammie B. James

James, the son of the late Hoyt James and Maggie Lester, was born on March 5, 1928 in Dillon, South Carolina. After a brief but serious illness, God called Sammie home to rest on May 17, 2007.Sammie better known as “Buddy” or “Sam,” attended public schools in Springville, South Carolina for a number of years. Sammie was involved with the Masons and he believed that “the Lord could do all things.”Sammie met, fell in love with and married, Irene Florabelle Adams on November 13, 1948. Out of that union came six children.Sammie worked hard all of his life, and was first introduced to the work force at the early age of nine. As a young man Sammie worked in the Brickyard in Marion, South Carolina. He was always a very diligent worker and faithful to his trade. Sammie moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland in 1949, where he became employed with Campbell Construction Company. In 1952, Sammie became employed with Paul J. Rauch Construction Company and retired from the age of sixty-seven.Sammie was a faithful, loving husband and a devoted father to his children. Sammie always put his family first and his main concern was making sure that they were okay. Even on his sick bed he made his children promise to take care of Hun. After his retirement he dedicated his life to his wife and spent most of his time caring for her, his children and his grandchildren making sure that they were taken care of and that their needs were met. He also assisted his wife in caring for his mother-in-law when she could no longer take care of herself.He leaves to mourn: his loving and devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Irene Florabelle Adams James; sister, Geneva Bethea of Hampstead, New York; son, Harry L. James, who preceded him in death; two sons, Sammie James, Jr. and Hart L. James; three daughters, Pecolia Silver, Rebecca Silver and Patricia Silver; three sons-in-law, Donald Silver, Larry Silver and Dennis Silver; thirteen grandchildren including his special grandson, Sam; sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and two very best friends, Arthur and Ben.
