Sallie J. Hill

SALLIE JEAN HILL, the daughter of the late King David Hall and Laddie McMickens Hall was born on December 27, 1922 in Blackstock, the community of Chester and Fairfield Counties in the Midlands of South Carolina. She was the eleventh of sixteen siblings. Fourteen of whom preceded her in death. Three infants at birth, Irene (1910-1993), Hattie Bell (1912-1984), Leslie "Bob" (1914-1985), Lillie Mae (1915-1984), Inez (1917-2001), Rose Anna (1919-1993), John A. (1921-1988), Robert Lee (1925-2010), George Frank (1927-2010), Hezekiah (1929-2012) and Henry (1933-1990). Sallie, also affectionately known as "Aunt Jane" departed this life on August 18, 2018, at her home in the company of her loving family. Sallie received her education in the rural counties of South Carolina. At a young age she attended Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. Sallie married Willie Hill Jr. (1925-2003), on October 13, 1946 and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. The young couple over a span of sixteen years gave birth to 10 children; James Theodore, William Nelson (1948-1972), Betty Jean, Lottie Bonita (Smith), Thomas, Theresa (Green), Tyrone (1955-1956), Josephine, Kathryn (Morton) and Donald Erwin. Sallie worked briefly before deciding to become a full time wife and mother. In 1968, she returned to the work force. Sallie worked at Sinai Hospital for 17 years before retiring. After her retirement, she spent her time reading her bible, going to church, (Manna Bible Baptist Church and later Colonial Baptist Church) quilting, gardening and baby sitting her grandchildren; Nicole Smith (Woods), Michael Smith, Quiana Hill, Serena Hill (Myers), Shanise Hill (Demar), Terrell Green, Joshua Green, Reginald Morton Jr., Jerome Green, Justin Green, Christopher Morton and Darnell Green. After 57 years of marriage, on March 6, 2003, Sallie lost her loving and devoted husband, Willie Hill Jr. But she took great comfort in knowing that their legacy will live on in the precious lives of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Great Grandsons; Ryan Woods, Javon Woods, Jordan Woods, Christopher "CJ" Hill, Tristan Myers, Chaiden Demar, Chance Demar and finally a great granddaughter Bailey Morton. Sallie loved her family and they loved her She will be forever remembered as a sweet, lovely, and kindhearted woman. She leaves to cherish her memory: Eight children; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Larry Smith and Jeffrey Green; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Hill; one Sister, Willie B. Peterson; one special niece, Minnie Hopkins; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Jordan, Fannie Mae McMickens, Lettie B. Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
