Ruth Jackson Walker

“Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal.” Although we know this world, however beautiful, was never meant to be the place that we could call our home for all eternity; our hearts were deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved; Ruth Jackson Walker, who made the transition from earth to heaven on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Hanover Health & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. Born on December 11, 1932 in Richmond Virginia, Ruth was the second child born to the late Herbert and Louise Jackson. She received her education through the Richmond Public schools system. Ruth at an early age accepted Christ and was baptized at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church. She later joined and was a faithful and loyal member of the Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church and until her health prevented her from attending. Ruth enjoyed attending church service and she loved hearing gospel singing. In 1950, Ruth married Douglas Walker, Sr. Her greatest passion in life was raising, caring for and loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who had the privilege of visiting Ruth at her home knows she would always invite you in for a good and hot homemade meal. She enjoyed baking sweet potato pies and fruitcakes, frying chicken, and her tasteful collard greens. The Matriarch of the Walker family, Ruth was a source of support and love to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She gave of herself unselfishly and her love poured out in the families of the people she touched. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas, Sr.; three children Annie, Douglas, Jr.,and Cleveland; and one grandson, Antonio Gaines. Ruth leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted family, three daughters, Lillian Matthews (Lynwood), Hilda Gaines, Joyce Parker (Leon);two sons, Clint Walker(Marquita) and Salahiddin Bilal; one brother-in-law, Cleveland Wyatt (Bessie); one sister-in-law Virginia Taylor ( Cleveland); sixteen grandchildren, Quan Presley (Daniel), Douglas Walker,III,, Sharon Oliver (Daniel), Andrew Gaines, Clyde Walker, Aqueelah Walker, Deon Parker, Norris Walker, Marqui Miller, Tamisha Parker, Clint Walker,Jr. , Tori Walker, John Walker, Maya Walker, and Madison Walker; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Alfred Walker, Sevelle Walker, Shakeem Walker, Daniel Oliver,Jr., Clyde Walker Jr., Layla Walker, Lanisha Fowler, Antonio Gaines Jr.,Lyndasia Gaines, Lyndell Gaines, Deon Parker, Diayasia Parker, Devonte Parker, Asia Tolliver,Iyana Goode; Naailah Veasy, Veasy Walker, Alliyah Walker, Azaria Walker,Anijee Gaines, De`Aniya Gaines, Damarion Gaines, Damarius Gaines, Kaiden Wright, four devoted friends, Carolyn Davis, Mattie Hatchett, Margaret Richardson, and Blanche Johnson, and a host of other special relatives and friends
