Ruth Annie Jordan

Obituary RUTH ANNIE JORDAN was born on March 8, 1918 in Farmville, Virginia to the late Charlie and Lucy Hartwell. Ruth was the oldest child of five; she had two brothers and two sisters. She is the last one to make her earthly transition. Mother’s caring and loving earthly life came to an end quietly at home during the late hours on Saturday, December 22, 2012. God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, He gently closed Mothers eyes and whispered, “My Child Come Home”. Ruth attended school in Buckingham County, Virginia. She was baptized at an early age and attended Ridgeway Baptist Church. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1936 with her Aunt Cora and her other siblings. Ruth met and married the late Earnest Lee Jordan, out of this union five children were born: Robert, Earnest, Jean, Charlene and Charles. She was a stay at home wife and mother. Ruth reared her children with a strong hand, on Sunday mornings’ everyone had to attend church and there were not options. In 1963, Ruth joined Faith Baptist Church on her Christian experience under the leadership of Dr. Walter E. Paige, Pastor; and then under the leadership of Dr. Gregory Maddox, Pastor; and remained a faithful member until her illness no longer permitted her to attend church services. Ruth raised her children to stay together, respect, and to support and help each other. She provided unconditional love, devotion, support and encouragement, not only to her children but to her grands and great- grands. The only time Mother would raise her voice was when she was correcting one of her kids or beating her opponents in spades or pinochle which she loved to do, she would tell you, come on sit down so I can beat you too. The card table won’t be the same. She loved sports, especially the Orioles. This year she really enjoyed watching the birds. Ruth Annie Jordan leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Charlene Jordan-Baker (Herbert); son, Charles Jordan (Francine); eight grandchildren, Robert Junior, Gail, Paul, Earnest Ill, Tawanda, Shawn, Nicole and Damon; six great-grandchildren, Sharita, Brandon, Robert Junior Ill, Raphael, Shawn Jr. and Lashaye; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ella Harrison; one brother-in-law, Lenious Jordan; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends, including a very special granddaughter, Tawanda, who assisted with her care and many sleepless nights at the hospital . “Mother, your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep”
