Rosetta Hudson Cleckley

ROSETTA HUDSON CLECKLEY, lovingly known to all as “Poochie,”was born on December 27, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Irene and James Hudson. She was one of the eldest of their union and proudly carried the role of “big sister,” paving the way for her siblings with strength, grit, and deep love. With her passing, she was the last of a total of 15 siblings to leave this earthly life. Rosetta was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and later worked as a dedicated security guard, a role that fit her protective spirit and no-nonsense nature. To know Poochie was to know someone both firm and tender—she could correct you with tough words one moment and embrace you with love in the next. She was the beloved mother of Charline Carpenter Curtis and Samuel Cleckley (preceded in death), and mother-in-law to Bruce Curtis. She was a proud grandmother to Vashon Johnson (preceded in death), Victoria Beard, and Sharonda Brady-Smith, and grandmother-in-law to Christopher Smith.Her love extended through generations, as a great-grandmother to Brandon, Marques Jr., Kevonte’, Clinton Jr., and Bre, and great-great-grandmother to Genesis, Ariah, Sunjai and Seven. Whenever she needed medical care or comfort, Poochie always turned to her closest loved ones—her granddaughter Victoria, great-niece Tranise and her nephew Castro. Their care and devotion meant the world to her, and she trusted them deeply during her times of need. Poochie’s sayings were as legendary as her spirit. She was never one to mince words, often reminding folks, “Don’t play P and get F’d,” and “Mother had you and mother F you!” Her raw honesty, quick wit, and fearless voice left an impression. Yet, beneath her toughness lay a deep well of love, loyalty, and care for her family and all who truly knew her. Rosetta’s life was a testament to resilience, strength, and unfailing love. She taught her family the importance of standing your ground, being true to yourself, and never forgetting the value of family. Poochie’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit, humor, and love will echo through the generations she leaves behind. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed to share life’s journey with her. Though she has transitioned from this world, Poochie’s legacy remains—a fierce, loving matriarch whose light and unforgettable words will live on im the hearts of all who new her.
