Rose L. Wright

Rose Louise Wright, 93, was born April 4, 1911 in Oakville, Maryland to the late Rose Lena Forbes and Lewis Jordan. She departed this life on June 5, 2004 at Bon Secour Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Her loving husband Perry Gregory Wright preceded Rose in death. She received her primary education in the St. Mary’s County school system and her secondary education at Cardinal Gibbon’s high school, in Ridge, Maryland, a boarding school for African American students supported by the Jesuit community.After relocating to Baltimore, Rose worked for many years during and after World War II at Glenn L. Martin, an airplane manufacturing company in Middle River, Maryland. She also worked diligently and briefly in food service at St. Peter Claver’s School.Rose had been an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of St. John at St. Peter Claver where she held various officer positions. Most recently, Rose looked forward to her weekly gathering with the St. Peter Claver Shining Stars senior citizens group.Her interests were many. She enjoyed cooking and sewing until her eyesight limited these activities. She always enjoyed visiting family members in St. Mary’s County and the Washington D.C. area.Her brothers, Forbes, Joseph and Aloysius Jordan preceded her in death.Rose is survived by her daughter Grace Reid and her sons Michael, Melvin and Darwin. She also left to cherish loving memories her brother Lewis Edward Jordan (Catherine) of Washington, D.C. and her special niece and goddaughter, Rose Waters (Kenneth).She had many nieces and nephews, Frederick Jordan, San Francisco, CA, Lorraine Bush, Mechanicsville, MD., Phyllis Hopewell, Mechanicsville, MD., Joan Jordan, Oakville, MD., Joseph Jordan, Jr. (Blanche), Oakville, MD., Andre Jordan (Cynthia), Suitland, MD., Thelma T. Strickland, Mechanicsville, MD., Lawrence Jordan (Darlene), Fort Washington, MD., James G. Jordan (Jacqueline), Hinesville, GA., Michael J. Jordan (Christine) Leonardtown, MD., Bernadette Tyer, Valdosta, GA., and Monica Jordan, Takoma Park, MD. Rose is also survived by a number of great and great-great nieces, nephews and other relatives.
