Rosabelle Elizabeth Robinson

“A Time to Be Born”Rosabelle Elizabeth Robinson was born the only girl of eight children to the late John and Rosa McDowell in Shelby, North Carolina. According to the Census records of 1920, Rosabelle was seven years old. She celebrated life each year, on November 14. When questioned about her age, she proudly told her story, of how she did not have a birth record, but what she did have was a guess age. “A Time to Live”At an early age, Rosabelle devoted her life to Christ, at New Shiloh Baptist Church, in Shelby, North Carolina, under the leadership of, Rev. John R. Davidson. Rosabelle was educated by the public school system of Shelby, North Carolina.Rosabelle continued her education at Woods Morgan Beauty & Barber College in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she received her cosmetology license. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland she joined Sharon Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Leroy Moore.Rosabelle later met, Samuel David Robinson, and united in Holy Matrimony in 1947. From this union two devoted sons were born David McDowell Robinson, and Samuel Montrose Robinson.Rosabelle was one of the firsts, Black Female State Beauty Inspectors, in the state of Maryland. She was owner and operator of Robinson’s Beauty Salon, and was a vibrant beautician. She retired when she decided to begin her family, and raise her “Boys”. She continued to style hair, in her home.Rosabelle had a passion for politics, and surrounded herself with prestigious political leaders in the Baltimore area. She was an advocate for voter registration, and enjoyed working the election polls. Rosabelle loved life, and sharing her times and experiences with people. Rosabelle joined numerous organizations in her community, which gave her a network that included persons of all backgrounds. She utilized this network to make herself a well-rounded businesswoman. “A Time to Mourn” On September 28, 2002, Rosabelle suddenly departed this life, to enter into the heavenly gates. For we know that to be absent of fifty-five years, Samuel David Robinson; two sons, David McDowell Robinson, and Samuel Montrose Robinson; one daughter-in-law, Ruby L. Robinson; one very devoted grandbaby, Davida L. Robinson; one brother, Montrose McDowell, and one brother-in-law, Earnest Robinson; two sister-in-laws, Alice Robinson, and Geneva Boone and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
