Rosa Mae McFadden

Rosa Mae McFadden, beloved wife of the late Malichia McFadden was born, April 22, 1925 in Timmonsville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Sydney and Frances Johnson and the second of seven siblings, Ruth (Deceased), Nell, Magnolia, Sydney Jr. (Deceased), James (Deceased) and Euley (Deceased). She attended the public schools in South Carolina and proudly graduated from Brockington High School. In 1946, while in South Carolina, she met and married Malichia McFadden later moving to Baltimore, Maryland. To this union four children were born: Lorraine, Gwendolyn, Marvin and Reuben. She was a devout Christian and began her church affiliation as a member of the Perkins Square Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland where she served for six years. She was also an active member of the choir. Rosa Mae along with her husband joined the First Christian Community Baptist Church where she served also a a Deaconess for fifty years. In 1996, she moved her membership to Mount Zion Hill Baptist Church where her son Marvin serves as the Pastor. She served as a faithful member of the Missionary Ministry. Mother embraced the knowledge that God was with her always,even when she was a child. She enjoyed singing hymns and sang around the house often. It was commented that even while in the hospital and hospice, she could be heard singing, "Amazing Grace". She was always giving thanks to God. She understood the bond that keeps you close to God, Gratitude! She enjoyed beautiful things such as flowers, clothes, furniture, and shoes to name a few. Her favorite pastime was sitting and looking out her big picture window which held all the beautiful collectibles she acquired over the years. Rosa Mae was a devoted wife that demonstrated not only love but strength and commitment to her husband. She supported him with his janitorial business which was a part-time endeavor that grew to be in great demand. When health prevented dad from running the business, mother stepped in and kept the business going along with Marvin and Reuben. She turned out to be quite the entrepreneur. Although she loved her children, she had a special love for her grands and great-grand-children. She was a great cook and we had wonderful meals as children but it became a true legacy when the grands discovered her collards and macaroni and cheese. It was a joy to watch her playing ball with the great-grands even though she was not as mobile but that didn't seem to stop the fun! She enjoyed family gatherings and that was especially clear at her 90th birthday party. Additional words cannot express our loved for this wonderful woman, our Matriarch. Our hearts and our home will be empty without our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. During the latter years of mom's illness, her daughter Gwen became her primary caregiver. The family is thankful for the care she gave. She leaves to celebrate her life; her daughters Lorraine Bell (Martin) and Gwendolyn Lloyd; sons Marvin McFadden (Angela) and Reuben McFadden (Elaine); sisters Nellie McCullough and Magnolia Williams of South Carolina; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
