Rosa B. Meekins

Rosa B. Meekins, a.k.a. Rose was born in Richmond, Virginia, on September 2, 1921. She departed this life on March 25, 2004. She was the second of four children born to Richard and Rosa Briggs. She often spoke of growing up in a loving family environment.On June 13, 1942, she married George w. Meekins and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Three daughters were born from hat union, Rosa Elizabeth, Brenda and LaVerne. Brenda preceded her in death.Rose worked in electronics at Glen L. Martin and later at Westinghouse where she retired after 23 years of service.She was raised in a Christian home and later received Christ as her personal savior. Rose was member of The Church of St. Mary The Virgin, where she diligently worked with the Episcopal Church Women (ECW). She loved her church family. Rose was thorough in whatever she did and liked fine things. One of her skills was gourmet cooking. She often sent family members long distances to search for just the right ingredients for the dish she was preparing.She cared deeply about people and was like a mother to so many. We remember her smile and the way she laughed. She stood by your side and told it like it was.One of her hobbies was bowling. On Mondays she bowled with the “Whatever Bowling League” in Woodlawn. Rose also enjoyed sewing, cooking, theatre and gardening. For several years local garden clubs awarded her for the decorative flower arrangements outside her home. She also planted a vegetable garden annually and her reward was in sharing her bounty with family, friends and neighbors. She was known for her large tomatoes.“Dee Dee” as she was known by some friend and associates delighted folds with her sense of humor, her wit and winning personality. She was a people magnet until the end. Folds loved to come over and chat with Dee Dee. Even in the hospital folks commented on her inner beauty and the twinkle in her eye. Her very last thoughts were in the form of individual prayers for the people she loved saying “thank you” after each prayer for family members, neighbors and friend.Rose did not wait for life; she went out and embraced it!Rose leaves to cherish fond memories; her husband, George W. Meekins, two daughters, Rosa Stewart and LaVerne Johnson; one son-in-law, Reginald Johnson; four grandchildren, Brian Stewart, Kevin Watson, Marshall Stewart and Tomeka Blackwell; seven great grandchildren, Candace, DeJuan, Bria, Julian, Cymone, Sophia and Miles.Mother, we thank the Lord for the time we shared together on earth and we know that you are at peace with Jesus.
