Roosevelt Pitt Sr.

ROOSEVELT PITT, SR., son of the Davis and Helen Pitt, was born in Falkland, North Carolina on May 24, 1930. He departed this life on Friday, April 1, 2011. Roosevelt lived his early years farming. He attended Falkland City Schools. He often visited friends and family to socialize and reminisce whenever visiting his home. He never forgot his humble beginnings and his many friends and family. Roosevelt later jointed the United States Army and served his country while stationed in Japan. After an honorable discharge, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he met his soulmate, the late Mary E. Faulkner. They soon married and from this union, God blessed them to raise eight beautiful children, five girls and three boys. Roosevelt a.k.a. “Pitt,” was a man that really loved work. He enjoyed his work and was proud of being a strong, reliable provider for his family. He worked many years at General Refractories doing Masonry. After retirement he established a thriving, successful landscaping business. Because of his early experience in farming, landscaping was truly near and dear to his heart. It was a hobby rather than a job and Pitt never complained about working. Pitt truly loved his family. He was a very kind, generous and dependable husband, father and friend. He was a man of very few words, but often expressed his love through actions and in deeds. He received full membership at the New Rehoboth Baptist Church on the twenty-first of April 1996, under the leadership of Rev. Zollie Wright. Pitt has gone on to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and there he will reunite with his wife, Mary, whom he truly adored. Pitt leaves to mourn and cherish his memory: five children, Shirley Harris (Arthur), Menerva Jones (Michael), Roosevelt Pitt, Jr. (Mary) Renee Roberson and Deborah Pitt; son-in-law, Tyrone Chapman; three sisters, Minerva Rogers of Farmville, NC, Evelyn Pitt of New York, NY and Laurena Dais of New Haven, Ct. Pitt also leaves one sister-in-law, Helen Pitt of Snow Hill, NC; two brother-in-law, James McMiller of Boston, MA and Willie Forman of Farmville, NC; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Pitt was preceded in death very recently by his daughter, Valerie Chapman; two sons, Anthony and Ronald; two sisters, Mable Forman and Helen McMiller; three brothers, David Pitt, Jr., Jason Pitt and Jessie Pitt; one brother-in-law, Leon Dais; two sister-in-law, Edith Pitt and Verna Pitt. Pitt will be dearly missed and truly remembered.
