Mr. Rondy Payne Griffin Sr.

R o n d y P a y n e G r i f f i n S r. passed away February 13, 2025 at Sinai Hospital. He was comforted and cared for by his constant Prayer Warriors, Companions in Christ, and a devoted son Rondy P. Griffin II. He was a Master Teacher, Always About The Business, a Father, accomplished Educator, Staff Developer, and friend to many. Born in Macon, Georgia, he traveled with his mother to Baltimore, A proud product of Dunbar Elementary and High School, he learned early on a work ethic that would help him overcome many obstacles. An early teacher noticed his difficulty reading and went to work helping him. He never forgot this and dedicated his life to training others. A graduate of Coppin State College and Morgan State University, with a Masters in Early Childhood Education, he taught at Collington Square Elementary in his neighborhood for years and went on to become a Master Teacher . He was a hard task master pushing his students in the traditions he learned at Dunbar. He held himself and his peers to the high standard he learned at Dunbar. Suit and Tie Everyday-Dressed the part everyday-A staple in the community- he even had the pleasure of having his sisters in his school for a time. His journey took him to Frankford Elementary School and Dickey Hill Elementary where he retired having served the families and children of Baltimore City Public Schools for 32 Years. Rondy was a great fisherman and could often be found out at Rocky Point , Sandy Point, or any place the fish were biting for hours. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, traveling with Rod, Reel, and Tackle in his trunk, always ready to land a great catch. Knowing a great catch when he found one-He met and eventually married Carolyn Doles. From their union came a son-Rondy P. Griffin II. Devoted to his spiritual growth- he was a dedicated member of The City Temple of Baltimore Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Yergin. Working on committees to help restore one the States oldest organs and later organizing with pride trips to The African American Museum of History in Washington, D.C. with Early Reflections on the East Baltimore Community he felt a sense of pride and gratefulness for how it helped to to tell the story of a people-our people. Rondy was passionate about Coppin State and the life long friendships it provided. A Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity he believed in Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. As part of his graduate studies, he wrote a soon to be published book about The Department Of Education being Infiltrated by those who sought to dismantle it much like the time now. Rondy was a loving brother, father, faithful son, an “Always about the business” uncle, and dedicated friend to Mary Harris, Janet Blackmon, Doris Hollinger, Ms. Churn, Ms. Nunn, his lunch bunch and many others. He leaves to celebrate his memory: his Son Rondy P. Griffin II; his Grandson (Gemariah G. Griffin); his sisters Anitra Jones, Jill Booze, Marcia Hawkins, Janet Jones; nieces, Yolanda Jones, Malicia, Felicia and Alicia Pulley, Anitra Purnell; nephews, Tony and William Causion, James and Casey Pulley, Reginald Purnell; and a host of cousins, and devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Daisy Lee Shelley Spearman, brother Larry Jones and sister Janet Jones.
