Ronald R. Thompson

Ronald Renard Thompson, son of the late Elease Hailstock Thompson, was born on July 25, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on January 1, 2016. He received his education from Samuel Coleridge Taylor Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Jr. High School and Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore. He attended Baptist church during his youth where he was baptized. Shortly after completing his studies he enlisted the United States Air Force where he retired in 1973. After the military he relocated his wife and three young children from the Philippines where he was stationed to make Baltimore their permanent home. He was briefly employed with the United States Postal Service before accepting permanent employment with the Department of Health and Human Services, Social Security Administration as an Insurance Claims Examiner from which he also retired. He married Maria Bawing and out of this union three children were born, Lesley, David and Suzanne. Ronald made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him. He was always a true friend and devoted family man who loved to take his wife and children on fishing trips, weekend bowling and occasional vacations out of the country whenever he could. While he loved his career in the military and at SSA, spending quality time with his family was always first and foremost in his life. He had a unique witty sense of humor about him, had a worldly intelligence, was no-nonsense and was a brilliant man. Like his mother, he would stimulate his brain with daily crossword puzzles and logic games. He welcomed just about any challenge with a saying he often made: “No sweat”. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Maria B. Thompson; one son, David A. Thompson; two daughters, Lesley A. Thompson and Suzanne D. Thompson; two brothers, John R. Thompson and Chester C. Thompson; daughter-in-law, Connie Thompson; one sister, Debra Ligon; a sister-in-law, Rosalind Clark Thompson; six grandchildren, Kevin T. Hutt, Jr., Taylor N. Hutt, Amira P. Johnson, Chloe M. Thompson, Cayla A. Thompson and Chelsea C. Thompson; nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Elease Thompson, brothers James E. Thompson and Vernon Thompson, and sister, Elease V. Thompson.
