Roberta H. Lindsey

Roberta Hazeltine Lindsey, the daughter of the late John Massie Fowlkes and Nannie E. (Walker) Fowlkes was born on March 10, 1929 in Vera, Appomattox County Virginia. Roberta passed from this life on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Roberta was educated in the Baltimore City School System. In her youth, Roberta worked for Johns Hopkins Hospital as a candy striper. During and subsequent to her primary role as a homemaker, Roberta often provides childcare service to many family and friends. Once her own childrearing was done, Roberta worked again for Johns Hopkins Hospital in her later years. Robert loved spending time with family and friends. She initially was a member of Walbrook Community Baptist Church but joined Southern Baptist Church in 1976 along with her two youngest daughters. Roberta loved to talk but was oftenvery shy around those she did not know well. She seldom sat stil and was always busy”Cleaning”. Robert loved to travel. She enjoyed gerdening and forever kept rose bushes in her backyard. Children were Roberta's passion. She spent inmeasurably time and countless years being a mother to every child she baby sat, knew through her own children or became acqquainted with through other avenues. Roberta loved to drive and even when she aged, she would take the car a few short blocks to the neighborhood shopping center just to geet a cup of coffee and a doughnut. Roberta loved life, was happiest around her family and always felt blessed no matter the circumstances. Roberta was Preceded in death by her husband, James Emery Lindsey; her youngest son, James Carlos Lindsey; her only sister, Marjorie Louise Shannon(Fowlkes); two brothers, John Fowlkes and Kenneth Harry Fowlkes and one grandson, Sekou Mubarak Ahmad. She leaves to mourn, one son , Claude Rickey Lindsey (Virginia); four daughters, Jeanetta Elizabeth Hinton( Terry deceased), Maria Antonina Lindsey- Ahmad (Zayd) Gwendolyn Yvette Boyd(Dean), Dulcinea Roberta Lindsey; one surviving brother, Fred Alvin Fowlkes; eighteen grandchildren. Melissa Lynette Lindsey, Marlene Nicole Lindsey, Marice, Kurt Lindsey, Terrence LaDon Lindsey, Tenika Lindsey Biishop, Derrick Martel Lindsey, Carlos Terrell Lindsey, Jewel Lindsey, Sekou U. Ahmad, Naseema D. Ahmad, Fajr M. Ahmad Muhammad, Fatima I. Ahmad, Ruqayyah J. Ahmad, S. Muhammad Ahmad,S. Ali Ahmad, S. Taqi Admad, Thomas Akai Lindsey eight great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
