Robert Shirriel

Robert C. Shirriel Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, quietly departed this life in the early afternoon of Thursday, November 25, 2004 and went home to be with his Lord and savior. Robert was born at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland on October 20, 1942 to Nathaniel and Catherine Shirriel (both deceased) of Brandywine, Maryland, Charles County. He was one of fourteen children.Robert received his education in the Charles County Public School System. Later he met Margaret Jennings. They were married on June 24, 1967 and they had three children, Lawanda (deceased), Robert Clifton Jr. and Barry Christopher. Robert’s greatest enjoyment was spending time and doing things for his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to cook (as did his father “Daddy Shirriel”), often preparing various dishes that only he knew what they were. Robert was devoted to all of his grandchildren, especially the three that he raised, Lisa, Dontae and Sierra and his one and only great-granddaughter, Nia Jade. He always had time to listen to others and often offered his help in whatever way he could. Robert made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him. He loved most sports, however football and baseball where his favorite.Robert joined the United States Army National Guard in September 1982 and then retired from the military in 2002. He worked for the State of Maryland for twenty-seven years and retired in August 1998.Robert leaves to cherish his memory: Margaret, his caring and devoted wife of thirty-seven years; two sons, Robert Jr. and Barry Christopher; nine grandchildren, Lisa Renee, Dontae Christopher, Sierra Antoinette, Barry Christopher Jr., Robert Clifton III, Shemika, Lashae, Khadijah and Diandre; one sister, Robin Shirriel; nine brothers, Tommie Richard Shirriel (Mingy), Tyrone Valentine Shirriel (Linda), Carlos David Shirriel (Rose), Terry Joseph Shirriel, Kenneth Augustus Shirriel (Evelyn), Purcell Joseph Shirriel (Doris), and Gerald Andrew Shirriel; one daughter-in-law, Tamara Shirriel; also sisters-in-law, Shirley Evans, Gloria Jennings, Mayziner Willons and Edith Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
