Robert Joseph McNair

Robert J. McNair Sr., affectionately known as Joe, was born August 11, 1937 and was raised in the township of East Huntington, Pa. In a Christian home led by his father Deveraux and his mother Blanche. Joe was the second youngest of ten children and the youngest boy.Upon graduation from East Huntington High School in 1956, and after wrecking his father’s car, Joe headed straight to the enlistment office. He came home and announced to his dad, “I wrecked your car, but I joined the Navy”. During his service to the United States Navy. Joe was apart of the Navy’s basketball team. It has been said that one of his jobs on the ship was to steer, which he was rarely called to do. When asked how he got out of doing that job he replied, “I don’t know, they just told me to play ball”. Joe was an award-winning basketball player who helped lead his team to championship tours in the Bahamas and other places.Joe was an all-around sportsman, having played baseball and football. He was a fitness enthusiast who kept his body lean mean until it was no longer possible for him to exercise.After his stint in the Navy Joe worked as a chimney sweep and other odd jobs before landing a job with what would be his place of employment until retirement, Proctor and Gamble.Joe was a strong man of faith. He gave his life to Christ at an early age. Even as a teen he strived to do the right thing and because he didn’t follow the crowed was known as “Holy Joe.”Joe met Faith in August of 1986 and after a two-year courtship married in December of 1988. It was a good match. They spent many memorable times together traveling, by boat, car or in the air. They loved to bake together during the holidays. He baked cottage cheese bread and she baked apricot brandy cakes. His favorite thing to do was to watch sports on TV, and hers was to learn about the sports he watched on TV. It was a good relationship. “What God has joined together let not man put asunder, until death.”Joe is the devoted father of daughter Kim McNair-Jackson and son Robert J.McNair II. He is the loving grandfather of four, Dwayne Wallace Jr., Nicole Wallace, Lauren McNair and Robert JmcNair III, (Joey).He has also shared his faithful love with adopted daughter Karen Smith, stepdaughter Evangeline Thomas and a host of other family and friends. Joe leaves with wonderful memories of life, his devoted wife, Faith, his children/grandchildren, brothers Daniel and Tom, sisters Edna and Ruth, daughter-in-law Traci McNair and son-in-law Dwight Jackson.
