Robert Clinton Irving,Sr.

Family was his love, Friends were his treasure. Administration was his profession Golf was his passion, Table Games were his fascination, And Faith was his comfort. Robert Clinton Irving,Sr.was the son of the late Prince and Marion Irving. He was born in Norfolk,Virginia and was preceded in death by his son,Robert C. Irving,Jr. Robert accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Calvary Baptist Church in his home town. Robert was educated in the public schools system of Norfolk,Virginia. As a young boy,he truly showed potential in management and entrepreneurship. This potential was evidenced through his craftiness to create his own jobs of various types,selling papers,books and even lemonade,among other things. Robert was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk,VA. Upon graduation, Robert moved to Brooklyn,New York and attended R.C.A. Institute of Electronics and Management. In 1960,Bob married Evadnie Anna Wilkie and from this union they became the proud parents of four children,Robert C. Jr.,Clinton J.,Ronald D. and Miriam L. Irving. He eventually moved his family to the state of Massachusetts where he was employed with the federal government. He resided in Salem.Massachusetts with his family and worked in Boston. Later,Robert was promoted from Equal Opportunity Assistant to Equal Opportunity Employment Officer at the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond,Virginia. As the Equal Opportunity Officer and Deputy Director of Human Resources,Robert Irving made a powerful and lasting impact on the quality of service provided to Bellwood's managers and employees. When he arrived in 1975,the Defense Supply Center was immersed in a federal class action suit. He worked closely with the Civilian Personnel Office,Office of Counsel and federal attorneys in preparing for DGSC defense over a 24 year span. Robert Clinton Irving,Sr.,an icon and trend setter, in the world of equal opportunity for almost one quarter of a century. He lead by example and was a critical member of Bellwood's senior management team. He met difficult challenges head on and lead his subordinate managers and their staffs through many cultural transformations. Managers were well served by his uncanny ability to get to the heart of issues and mediate solutions that create "win-win" situations. For his numerous achievements,Robert Clinton Irving,Sr. was inducted into The Defense Logistics Hall of Fame on April 27,2006. Bob, became a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church and served on many committes including the Credit Union. While working on the Credit Union he served on the Supervisory Committee,Marketing Committee and the Board of Dorectors. He also served as the President of the Credit Union. Robert Clinton Irving,Sr. leaves to cherish his memory,a loving and devoted wife,Evadnie A. Irving;a daughter,Miriam I. Richardson;two sons,Clinton J.,Ronald D.(Navon) Irving;five grandchildren;Kimberly Irving,Sean and Bryan Richardson;Brandon and Robert,II Irving. One great-grandchild;Stephanie Richardson;sister,Rev. June A. Hunter;brother,Wayne Irving,Rose Kendred and two devoted friends;David L. Hoggard,Craig Bryant,Willie Ransom,Bob Lamb and Spiro Kontinopoulis.
