Robert Beecher Hobson,Jr

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, our heavenly father wrapped his loving arms around Robert (Sonny) Beecher Hobson, Jr. and gently guided him home. Thank You Lord for Your loving grace and mercy. Sonny was born on November 18, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia. He accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of New Bridge Baptist Church. He graduated from Virginia Randolph High School in 1953. Following high school Sonny began many years of dedicated employment with Freidman and Marks Clothier, Nine Mile Road Pharmacy, MaTavish and Wonder Bread until his retirement. Sonny often spoke fondly of the friends he met during his many years of employment. While he committed many years of service to these companies, his greatest passion came from his love of carpentry. Over the years Sonny became known for his devotion to his family and friends, serving as caretaker to many. We will always cherish his wonderful sense of humor and caring spirit. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Dickerson Hobson and Robert Beecher Hobson, Sr., and two sisters Lucretia McDowell and Lelia Thompson. Sonny leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife and friend, Barbara; three sons, Robert III, Paul and Todd; one daughter-in-law, Linda; ten grandchildren,Shelita, Chaya, Jamel, Sheena, Deairra, Shantane, Andre, Nathan and Zuri; six great-grandchildren, DeAndre, Dymond, Sean, Chanya, Zoe and Calia; two brothers, Hughes Sanders (Doris), Ft. Washington, MD and James Henry( Ramona); one uncle and aunt, Earl and Margaret Dickerson of Port Murry,NJ; father and mothers-in-law, Major and Nan Stepperson and Roberta Johnson; seven sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins( two very devoted, Matthew and Audrey Hobson of Atlanta, GA); two godchildren, Fallon Harmon and Derrick Smith of Baltimore, MD. Sonny also had many caring and devoted friends; among them are Jerry Walker, Lloyd Duckenfield, John Sellars, Dennis McKensey, Harold Ellis, Jake Austin, Frank Preston, George Mallory and his loving pet “King”. Thank You God for blessing us all with a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, godfather and friend.. we will cherish his memory always.
