Robert Harry Coverton

Robert Harry Coverton Sr., affectionately known as “Bob” to many,was born in Richmond,Virginia on October 6, 1928, the eldest son of Edmonia Bolden. His journey on this side ended on Thursday morning, August 28, 2008 surrounded by family and embraced by their love. Bob grew up in Bungalow City,attended New Bridge Baptist Church and was educated in Henrico County schools. He continued to be a part of the school system as a school bus driver before joining the military.During World War II, Bob served in the Army and begin to find joy as achef in the military kitchen. His meals were tasty and known to be spiced with plenty of pepper. Union Envelope served as a primary employer throughout his life. There he was a truck driver and retired after over twenty fiveyears of service.While many have hobbies, Bob simply loved to talk, hang with his friends and dance. His dance style was special and like none other. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting and drawing. His love for people was well known,and being alone was not one of his favorite things. However,after many years of sharing a home, he settled in his own quaint apartment in his much loved Churchill. His routine included a daily walk around the neighborhood, often calling his children before turning in for the night.And if no one answered,he would leave the same message;“It’s your Daddy calling.” And when asked about something planned down the road,he often replied;“If the good Lord’s willing.”He leaves to cherish the memory of his life four sons, Robert CovertonJr., of Berlin, Germany, Vernon Coverton,Nehemiah Malachi and Geoffrey Coverton;daughter,Jill Coleman and son-in-law,Chris; three grandsons,Gerrin,Jullian and Samiel;mother, Edmonia Bolden and brother, Chris Bolden,all of Richmond;his children’s mother, Della Coverton;a host of nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.He is preceded in death by his son,Dr. Ronald W.Coverton and brother,Charles Bolden.His legacy of unconditional love to others, and his faith will remain forever in our memories.A wise farmer watches over his crops to make sure they prosper and grow...much as a wise father tends his children. Being there sounds like such a simple thing, but it means so much.Just knowing that you were there gave us strength, and the guaranteethat we would always have morethan our share of laughter and good times....plus all the love we need. Thanks, Dad, for being there.You have no idea how much that means. Your children
