Robert F. Tyler

Robert F. Tyler, Sr. was born March 19, 1940 in Varina, Virginia. He was the son Rev. John F. Tyler, Jr. and the late Catherine Tyler. He was called home to receive his reward on April 7, 2007. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Tyler and daughter, Cynthia Crutchfield. He attended Virginia Randolph School. At an early age, he accepted Christ at First Bethel Baptist church and became very active in the Junior Choir. He later became a member of Good Hopewell Baptist Church. There he was ordained as a deacon. Robert later transferred his membership to Northside Crusader Baptist Church under leadership of his father the Rev. John F. Tyler, Jr., where he served as chairman of the deacon board. After many years of service, he was appointed deacon emeritus. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Dolphin, Virginia where they became watch members at Mercy Seat RZUA Church. Robert worked at Philip Morris and retired after 20 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Solid Gold Van Club, later becoming a member of the RV Club where he and his wife traveled extensively for several years. Robert will always be remembered for his lengthy conversations and style of dress, whether formal or casual. His philosophy was “everything must match”. He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife, Delores L. Tyler of 42 years; 3 sons, Robert Tyler Jr. (Dottie), Master Sgt. Ulysses Tyler of Hampton, VA; 2 daughters, Angela Gordon (Preacher) and Hannah Burson (Anthony); 7 grandchildren, Lakeisha, Rasha, Tanisha, Russell Jr., Eriqa, Dionna, and Sterling; 7great-grandchildren; father, Rev. John F. Tyler, Jr. (Hattie); 5 sisters, Mary Anderson (William), Catherine Wells, Diana Echols (Thurman), Lorraine Morris (William), and Monette Moore; 2 brothers, Earl Tyler Sr. (Valerie) and Theodore Tyler Sr. (Julia); loving mother-in-law, Hannah P. Lewis; 3 sisters-in-law, devoted Maggie Williams (devoted, Harry), Joyce Williams (Kenneth), and Sylvia Jones (Horace); 1 brother in-law, Charles Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, 1 devoted Robert Simms.
