Robert Michael Chandler

ROBERT MICHAEL CHANDLER, known by his family as “Mike”, departed this earth to rest with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2011 after a lengthy illness. This was a grand reunion to heaven, as we known he joined up with the love of his life, Catherine Chandler, his mother. Mike was born on December 21, in Baltimore City to the proud parents at Catherine Chandler and Earl Edward Chandler, Sr. Mike was raised in the church, with his sisters and brothers Gloria (Sissy), Earl Chandler , Sr. (Junior), Lawrence (Butch), Glenora (Cookie), Muriel (Sissy) and Diane (Dee Dee). Mike attended schools in the Baltimore City Schools System, and was a graduate of Forest Park High School in Baltimore City. He joined the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church at an early age under his parents’ guidance and the late Dr. Samuel B. Redd. He was a member of the Intermediate Ushers, Youth Group and Sunday School. Mike served in the Army for four years and was honorably discharged. Not a week went by in the four years that Mike did not send his brothers and sisters or parents a letter. Mike worked diligently at the United States Post Office for over forty-three years and was a dedicated worker. Mike worked in the post office more than the mailman! He was also an avid sports fan and he studied sports 24/7. He was even there when Jackie Robinson hit his first home run! He even mustered enough energy to watch the last Ravens game in the ICU on Sunday. He was such an avid sports lover, that one might say that when Wilma Rudolf ran her first track meet, she ran right into Mike! Through rain, snow, sleet or hail, Mike was always at work and hardly ever missed any time away from work. In fact, the day he was admitted to the hospital, he was on his way to work but became so weak that he requested an ambulance to take him to the emergency room only two blocks away. Mike had a quiet spirit about him, very humble and meek and a strong and personal relationship with God. He was always soft-spoken, unassuming, faithful, dependable and honest. He was a great brother and very protective to his sisters and brothers. He was a very giving uncle to his nephews and a dedicated worker to his co-workers and supervisors. Robert (Mike) is survived by: two brothers, five sisters, one niece, three nephews, three great-nieces, two great-nephews, and a host of family and co-workers who will miss him always.
