Robena Richardson

Robena Richardson departed this life at age 90 on March 25, 2009. She was born Robena Willliams on July 31, 1918 just before the end of World War I in Baltimore, Maryland. Her parents were Josephine Williams and Julius Robinson. There were two children from this union, she and her beloved younger brother, Edward Williams (Deceased). She was married to Charles Richardson; and she had two children, Annette Hoff (deceased) and Claudette Williams.Her daughter Annette and husband Nathaniel Hoff (deceased) had nine children: David Hoff (deceased), Victoria Forbes, Annette M. Hoff, Yvette Hoff- Boschulte, Nathaniel Hoff Jr., Ronald Hoff, Yvonne Bell, Christopher Hoff and Kevin Hoff. Her daughter Claudette had three children: Deborah Jacqueline Lee Olup, Edward (Tony) Lee and Michael Lee.Her nine great-grandchildren include Michael Lee Jr., Tomez Lee, David Lee, Brian Lee, Jessica Lee, Brian Bell, Brent Bell, and Bradley Boschule. Her five great-great grandchildren include Tezia (Baby Doll) Lee, Anthony Lee, Marcus Lee, Kaden Lee and Payton Boschulte.She had four grandsons-in-law, James Forbes, Bernard Boschullte, Troy Bell and Len Olup; two granddaughters-in-law, Roxanne Lee and Toya Lee; and two great-great granddaughters-in-law, Kim Lee and Anja Lee. Also included in her extended family were Jeb and Blue Olup.Robena attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Douglass High School. She attended Howard Community College in her later years but was unsuccessful in acquiring a degree. That never deterred her from learning all she could. She loved reading about all kinds of subjects: current events, biographies, African-American history, science, National Geographic, and political science.She lived a rich life. She lived through the Great Depression. She knew first hand about slavery from stories told to her by her grandmother. She lived through segregation and saw when it changed. She was a union worker in the garment industry until her retirement at age 65. Robena’s most memorable moment was the recent election of Barack Obama. She was so excited to see the first Black American elected for President of the United States in her lifetime.She was independent and lived alone She loved going anywhere with her family even if it was just for the ride. Her hobbies included watching soap operas, knitting, word-puzzles and expeditions to Dover Downs. She loved listening to music especially Marvin Gaye. She wrote journals. Her special treats were Hershey’s kisses and Manischevitz.She was loved by many and will be missed by many more..
