Rita P. Winder

Rita P. Winder, daughter of the late William and Harriette E. Winder, was born on November 8, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on May 17, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She is preceded in death by her loving son, Marlon Cornell Winder, Sr. Wandalene Green her half-sister and Milton Whorley her half-brother preceded her in death.Rita received her education at Western High School when it was located on Lafayette Avenue and McCulloh Street, she graduated as Valedictorian. She attended Cortez Peters Business School and was able to type 100 words a minute on a manual typewriter. Rita always believed that education was the key to life; and with that in mind, she furthered her education and attended Baltimore City Community College. She later attended Strayer University and earned an Associate of arts, Bachelor’s, and Master of Science Degree in Business Administration and held the title of Magna Cum Laude. She strived to be the best and do her very best at everything. She was a Jack-of-all-Trades and a Master of All. Although she was sick, Rita was able to earn her Ph.D. at Phoenix University.As a child, she attended St. Veronica Catholic Church in Cherry Hill. There she made her First Holy Communion, attended confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and Confirmation.Throughout her life, she held various jobs. Rita was employed with the Federal Transit Administration in D.C. over 17 years as a Program Analyst, and she loved working at home.She possessed several special talents; she was an excellent dancer and although she did not have any former training in decorating, she was extremely talented in that area. Did you know you had to have a talent for shopping? She did. Rita and Jackie would spend hours on end just shopping (especially at Thrift Stores). She also had two articles published. Rita was a very loving and caring person to her family and friends and she would help in any way possible.Rita was blessed with three loving and caring children: Michelle Yvette Winder and Carol Bernadette Winder. Marlon Cornell Winder, Sr. preceded her in death.She leaves to cherish her memory: tow daughters, Michelle Y. Winder and Carol Winder; two sisters, Catherine Winder-Thompson and Jacqueline Winder- Wallace; four brothers, William J., Stephen A., Anthony E., and Robert E. Winder; three half-brothers, Frank, Robert, and Arnet; one half-sister, Pauline; one uncle, Yusef Muhammad X (formerly Stephen J. Moody); two aunts, Cleo and Masie Moody; eleven grandchildren, Monica Winder- Ellis, Marlon, Jr., Gregory, Gerald, Sherie, Kashmer, Benzonia, Constea, Talib, Charles, Jr., Chanel; five great grandchildren, Jade, William, Serenity, Jaelyn, and Ockeem; a daughter-in-law, Dale Crawford; tow brothers-in-law, Calvin R. Thompson and Steven Wallace; three sisters-in-law, Rosetta, Laverne, and Georgetta; a godson, Andrew “Friday”; a step-mother, Mildred Winder; a life long family friend, Delores G. Shipley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
