Richard Vernon Scott, Jr.

Richard V. Scott,Jr., aka "Skeeter" was a loving husband;father and friend began his life November 1930. He answered the call to end his journey at the tender age of 80 on January 5,2011. Skeeter gave his heart to Ester Mae Miles who bore him five children.Upon her death and for the past 50 plus years his heart has been given to Dorothy Ann Scott. Quiet,reserved and measured,he was a man of no complaints. His countenance strong,he was always positive. He trusted God,lending his knowledge and skills to many a family member and friend. He was a hardworking man and dedicated Dad. As a dedicated employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia,Richard served under several administrations as the supervisor for the state's Printing Office on the Capital Grounds. While employed with the state and after his retirement.he lent his talents to many entrepreneurial endeavors in caring for his family. Gifted with amny skills,he never hesitated to share his knowledge unabated to all who sought his assistance "Have you tried my"Apple Pie" a euphemism for his homemade wine;Skeeter offered his brew to all takers. Affectionately known as "Daddy" "Dad""Pop-Pop""My Duck Man" he loved his family Je was a pillar of strength for many. An only child,raised in a loving home,he insisted in sharing his good fortune with others. As a crooner,he was an original member of the Virginia Choral Ensemble,joining Cedar Street Memorial Baptist Church at an early age. His gifted voice gave a strong resonance bass-line to his gifted choir. For many years ge served the church both as a member of the choir and as Boy Scout Master. A staunch believer.he insisted his children follow in his footsteps in worshiping the Lord. A loving husband,father,grandfather and great-grandfather,nephew,brother-in-law,cousin and friend he is survived by his wife,Dorothy,daughters;Symprosa(Aubrey Branch),Stephanie,Vanessa(Harvey Williams)Aquanetta and Gita;sons,Richard,III,Pierre,Larry(Diane Smith)and Daniel(Ida Wright)and a host of loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves be hind two devoted aunts;Estelle Pettis and Annie Mondrey,a devoted brother and sister-in-law,Charles and Ella Mines,a devoted cousin Vernon Hamilton,as well as many well-loved cousins,relatives and friends.
