Richard M. Woodson

Richard McKinley Woodson, Sr., son of the late Richard Nathaniel and Martha Goings Woodson, and grandson of the late James and Maggie Goings who raised him, was born on January 12, 1953 in Crewe, Virginia. He departed this life on June 30, 2003 after a lengthy illness.He received his education at Luther H. Foster High School in Nottaway County, Virginia. After graduation, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He initially became employed by the United States Post Office, later Montgomery Ward and finally, The Zamoski Company (Independent Distributors), where he remained until he became disabled. He was baptized and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.He was united in marriage to Rosetta Washington on June 29, 1974. Out of this union two daughters and one son were born. He was a faithful, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.Richard touched the lives of all who knew him. He made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed. Richard was always a true friend and a devoted family man. One brother, Carl Linwood Woodson, preceded him in death.He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his loving and devoted wife, Rosetta Woodson; two loving daugthers, Concetta Janeen and Tanisha Lynette Woodson; one son, Richard McKinley Woodson Jr.; his loving mother, Mrs. Martha Woodson; two brothers, Samuel L. and Kenneth M. Woodson, both of Baltimore, Maryland; his cousin, Roosevelt Goings Jr. that he was raised with as a brother; his two special “mieces”, Carletta L. and Jeanette M. Woodson; and his wife’s foster parents, the Reverend Wilbur and Mattie Witherspoon. He also leaves ten sisters-in-law Rhunette (Howard) Thompkins of Stone Mountain, GA; Linda (Raymond) Spann of Hephizbah, GA; Frances and Theresa Washington; Jacqueline Wright and Gwenevere Miller of Sumter, SC; Gail (Jesse) Hannibal; Brenda (Harry) Swinton and Wilhemenia Washington of Houston, TX and Geneva (Richard) Payne of Baltimore, MD; four foster brothers-in-law, Bernardo of Greenville, SC, Rodney of Baltimore, MD, Wilbur Lee and Birtie Witherspoon of Sumter, SC; three grandchildren, Jara Andrea Means, Charlie Louis Culp III, and Jaela Nicole Woodson; fourteen nieces; eleven nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; eight uncles, Leslie (Christine) Woodson, Marshall Lee (Barbara) Townes, Roosevelt Goines, Charlie (Charity) Townes, Harry (Celestine) Goings, Charles Goings, John (Sylvia) Mack and Levi Mack; five aunts, Martha (Gurnon) Stewart, Florence Goings, Alma Lowe, Rhunette Wise and Annie Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
