Richard L. Jones Sr.

Richard Lee Jones, Sr., son of the late Nettie T. Jones and Joseph L. Jones, Sr., victoriously entered the spirit-realm of eternal life on Monday, April 2, 2012. Richard or Dickie, as he was affectionately known, was born on June 24, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, where he served four years, including a tour in Korea and received an Honorable Discharge. Upon his return, Richard worked numerous jobs, including Sparrows Point, but he eventually found his true calling as a barber. It was as a barber that he got to combine his love for being around and helping people. Richard loved being with his fiends and family and served as Co-Chaplain for his family club-Goldston Dynasty Unlimited. His hobbies included fishing and billiards. Richard Jones and Shirley Wilks were united in holy matrimony in June of 1977. Out of this union came love, respect and friendship bonded by God. He joined the First John Tabernacle Baptist Church and sang on the Combine Choir, the Male Chorus and served on the trustee Ministry. He also served as the president of the Combine Choir and as chairman of the Trustee Ministry. Richard loved his church and church family, and was loved and highly respected by them. He was always ready and willing to do anything asked of him and did it very well. His dedication and service to the First John Tabernacle Baptist Church will long be appreciated and remembered. Richard went home to be with the Lord, leaving to treasure fond memories: his loving wife, Shirley; five sisters, Margaret Edwards, Madelaide Williams, Irene Adams, Edith Brown and Nettie Plessy; two brothers, Lawrence Jones and Gregory Jones, Sr.; (brother, Joseph L. Jones, Jr. and sister, Sara Jane Jones preceded him in death); son, Richard Lee Jones, Jr.; daughter, Crystal Leanne Jones; six grandchildren, Terrell, Richard III, Kimberly, Zion, Syncere and Adrian Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Christina and Sonne; three godchildren, Tiffany, Stephanie and Lamont; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
