Richard Lee Dorsey

Richard Lee Dorsey, 69 of Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Robert Dorsey and Bertie D. Wilson, was born on February 3, 1944 in New Windsor, Maryland. He made his transition to peace on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 12:05 am. At Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, Maryland. Richard earned his high school diploma from Robert Moton Consolidated School in Westminster, Maryland, in 1962. While attending high school he enjoyed participating in basketball, soccer, and track. He developed a lifelong friendship with his high school coach . Stanislaus Chase. He had a wonderful sense of humor with a courageous smile. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. In his formative years he attended Strawbridge United Methodist Church in New Windsor, Maryland. On June 17, 1989 he was united in holy matrimony with Sandra Elizabeth Ford, He loved to travel with Sandra until his health declined. He loved to take pictures to capture those specials moments. He loved their dog, Diamond Richard had the opp unity to see Diamond before his transition and became alert when she climbed into the bed. Richard worked as an accomplished chef at several restaurants in Baltimore City. He enjoyed eating and making Split Pea soup. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports, collecting and smoking pipes. He had a flair for fashion and loved to accessorize with his many hats and his mink coat. He also enjoyed going to the races especially Pimilico Race Track, and fellowship over meals with family members. Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra E. Dorsey; daughters Regina M. Dorsey of Derwood Maryland and Cynthia R. and son-in-law Joseph Jenkins of Germantown, Maryland; son Richard L. Dorsey, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Mary D. Carter Cross of Baltimore, Maryland; brothers and sister-in-law, James (Martha) of Parkville, Maryland, Francis (Dorothy) of Orangeburg. South Carolina, Nelson (Patricia) Dorsey of Westminster, Maryland, Kenneth Bertha) Dorsey of Jersey City, New Jersey, George (Josephine) of Bronx, New York, Leon (Elise) Dorsey of Charlotte, North Carolina, John (Margaret) of Baltimore, Maryland Cordelia Ford of Baltimore, Maryland and Carol Ford-Jewell (Kenneth) of Catonsville, Maryland, Evelyn (Robert, deceased) Dorsey of Baltimore, Maryland, Charlie Friend of Baltimore, Maryland and goddaughter Candice Footman of Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded by daughter Melissa L. Dorsey, grandson Noah Dorsey; sisters Gwendolyn Dorsey Dorm, Naomi Lee, Ruth Mitchell and Gloria Ford-Friend; brothers, William (Hollie), Robert, and Raymond. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. .
