Regina Iantha Brown

Regina Iantha Brown, daughter of the late Minnie I. Wilson and Roland Hill, was born December 22, 1922, in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on October 16, 2004, at 6:10 a.m. at her home in Columbia, Maryland. Regina graduated from Douglas High School, Baltimore, Maryland. Regina began her working career at Isaac, Bennish and Epstein Department Store. Later, she was employed at Hutzler Brother’s Department Store until she retired after twenty years of service.She married her high school sweetheart, the late Elmer M. Brown, Sr., on Thanksgiving Day, 1942. From this union four children were born, Norma Elmira, Brendenia Regina, Elmer Maurice Jr., and Angela Roszelia.Regina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. One of the many highlights of Regina’s life was the celebration of her Golden Wedding Anniversary in November, 1992.Regina found great joy and fulfillment in her family. She loved to share in family gatherings, weddings, graduations, birthdays, and after school functions with her grandchildren. Her proudest moments have been when she saw her children graduate from high school and college. In addition, she continuously praised her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for their personal successes in the fields of education, military service, and business. Regina was loved immensely by her family and friends. She was considered a “sweet and gently”, and was affectionately known as “Slim” by her beloved, Elmer Brown, and “M-o-t-h-e-r” exemplified by all of her children. A devout Catholic, Regina instilled her spirituality in the lives of her children ensuring that they were baptized and received their Holy Sacraments. To further her faith, Regina attended summer retreats each year with her sister Peggy and her adopted daughter, Jackie, until she became ill. She persevered in her faith in God, and He was her strength, inspiration, and motivation until the end.She leaves to mourn four children, Norma Shepperd, Brendenia Grady, Elmer Brown, Jr., Angela Ringgold-Rhoden; one daughter-in-law, Mary Brown; one son-in-law, Orrin Shepperd (Her Personal Chef); two adopted children, Adolphus Crenshaw and Jackie Lynch; seven grandchildren, Marc Grady, Michael Grady, Michele Grady-Johnson, Andre Brown, Monte Webster, Bryan Ringgold and Reginald Brown; eight great-grandchildren, Andreas Brown, Amber Webster, Joshua Johnson, Monica Webster, Erick Webster, Ericka Webster, Brittany Grady and Sandaa Htu Brown; two granddaughters-in-law, Melinda Brown and Elizabeth Webster; thee adopted grandchildren, Rosie Johnson, Megan Epps and Amiayah Epps; three sisters, Hullane Hill, Romaine Hale, and Peggy Day; two brothers, Joseph Hill Samuel Hill; one devoted niece, Stacy McPherson; two devoted friends, Barry Williams and Manson Council; and a host of family and friends.
