Ralph Sherman Comer,Sr.

April 24, 2009, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reached out and extended his hand to His child, Ralph Sherman Comer,Sr. Ralph was born June 13, 1945 to the late George Washington and Mary Stanley Comer. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Grace Comer, Evelyn Faison and Pearl Turner Washington.Ralph was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and obtained his education in the Richmond Public Schools system. Graduating from Armstrong High School, he furthered his education at J. Sargarent Reynolds Community College and attended Barber School in Richmond, Virginia.Ralph served in the United States Marines and received honorable discharge. He proudly talks about his experience in the Vietnam War since he had survived two tours of duty. While in the military, Ralph met his sweetheart, Jo Ann. They were married for 41 wonderful years. Ralph worked for Norfolk Southern Railway system, Philip Morris, DuPont and General Electric. He was also a businessman that formerly owned "The Plant and Gift Boutique". He was a former member of St. Paul's Baptist Church when it was located in Churchill. A loving man, who gave freely and selflessly of himself. He volunteered with the elderly at local nursing homes. Aside from his family and friends, reading, fishing, a love of music and cookouts were his passions. His heart of gold allowed him to open his doors to the community children and welcome them. Ralph was fun, loving, and very stern. When he asked you to do something, he meant it.A devoted husband and father dedicated his life to and took great pride in providing for his four children. Ralph was the best husband and father that anyone could be blessed with. He was also our best friend and will remain in our hearts forever.Ralph leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife Jo Ann Comer; three daughters, one devoted and loving, Rhonda Weiss (Fred), Alycia Wright (Steven) and Natasha Comer; one son, Ralph Comer Jr. (Miranda); nine grandchildren, Erik, Rodney, Mariah, Khalil, Alexandria, Darin, Landon, Jordan and Ziggy; sister, Ruth Comer; brother, Tyrone Comer; sister-in-law, Fatimah Razzak (Rakib); and a host of other relatives and friends.
