Prodgell S. Green

Quietly and peacefully almighty god in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our dear mother Prodgell Green. She entered into rest early Wednesday morning, October 30, 2002 at Augsburg Lutheran Home.Prodgell Green, the beloved daughter of Frank and Victoria Scott was born February 15, 1913 in Sumter, South Carolina. After the death of her mother, Abbie and Henrietta Stukes reared her. She was educated in the South Carolina School System. It was also there that she received her early religious training.On December 24, 1933, Prodgell was wed to the man of her life, Charles Aaron Green. From this union seven children were born. In 1936, Charles and Prodgell moved to Baltimore, Maryland and joined the Unity Christian Church under the pastorship of Rev. Levi B. Miller, Sr., where she remained an active member until her health failed several years ago. For several years, the family lived in Towson, Maryland were they attended Mount Calvary A. M. E. Church. In Prodgell’s life, God came first! With her faith in God, she was able to raise her children after the untimely death of her husband in 1954. She became both father and mother.Most of her years were spent as a domestic housekeeper and cook for many families. She led a very simple life. Affectionately, she was known as “Momma Green” to her neighbors, friends of her children and to all that came in contact with her. She believed in feeding everyone. There was always plenty of fried chicken and iced tea in her kitchen. She enjoyed cooking and no one left her home without being fed or leaving without a bag of food.Two children, Eartha and Emerson preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrating of her life: four sons, John Green (Velma), Charles Green (Betty), Louis Green (Denise), Victor Green (Open) and Prodgelee Pearson (John); eight grandchildren, Cheryll James, Louis Green, Jr., Jacquelyn Lawlah, Charles Green II, Monica Wright, Charleesiama McKenzie, London Hinton and Chancelor Green; thirteen great grandchildren; four sisters-in-laws, Mrs. Janie Adger of Sumerton, South Carolina and Mrs. Julia Cooper of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
