Preston Adolphus Clark

Reflections of Life “He fought a good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the course.” Preston Adolphus Clark, loving called “Peanut” or “Nut” was born August 1, 1947 to the late Ralph and Hazel Clarke. He was the 8th of 11 children. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Blanche Washington, Fletcher Clarke and Katherine Latney; two brothers, Daniel and Richard Clarke. Preston accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Hamilton Holmes High School of King William. He joined the United States Marine Corps after graduation in September 1966; and fought in the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in September 1969, he was employed as a letter carrier of the United States Postal Service for 27 years. During his time at the Post Office, Preston met and married Diane W. Edwards on June 25, 1988. Preston became a Master Mason at Triple River Lodge #253 of New Kent, Virginia. He was also a Treasurer of the Men’s Fellowship at Gethsemane. Preston enjoyed playing baseball, going fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and his beloved Miami Dolphins. Preston was a great and understanding husband, father and grandfather. Preston’s heartfelt generosity and warm spirit will be greatly missed. Preston leaves to cherish wonderful memories, a loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Diane E. Clark; four daughters, Andrea Ruffin of Richmond and Cavonia Washington (Darrick) of Aylett, Virginia; loyal and devoted Tonya and Tanya Edwards of Richmond, Virginia; son, Lewis Farmer of Richmond; six grandchildren, two devoted Justin and Jaylen Hatten; Taylor, Shanya, Kyla, and Marcus Washington; three sisters, Lois Smith and Bona Harris of King William, Virginia, and Sandra Clarke of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Charles Clarke and devoted Benjamin (Deborah) Clarke of King William, Virginia; mother-in-law, Barbara Stovall-Smith and sister-in-law, Karen (Carroll) Epps of Richmond, Virginia; devoted niece, Garnell (Goldie) Clarke, and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends; a lifetime friend for 67 years, Shirley Roane of Richmond, Virginia.
