Phyllis T. Epps

In the city of Baltimore, Maryland on January 5, 1947, Wilmer and Arnita Stanford presented this world with a daughter, PHYLLIS T. EPPS; fondly known as “Toni”. Toni graduated from Baltimore City’s Dunbar High School on June 5, 1965. Toni retired from the University of Maryland Medical System where she worked in the medical records department for thirty-plus years. After her retirement, she worked part time in the medical records/correspondence department at Good Samaritan Hospital. On July 25, 1970, Toni was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Merrill J. Epps, who preceded her in death on April 9, 2012. From this union two wonderful and devoted sons were born, Michael Jerrod and Marco Jarred Epps. Toni loved her family and would literally give you the coat off her back or her last dime if it would help you out. Gatherings at 1368 Pentwood Road were special to all because family and friends enjoyed Toni’s cooking which she was so excellent at. Some of our favorites were her crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and her specialty pineapple upside down cake. Toni was also a fan of March Madness College Basketball, the NBA and the WNBA. When you visited Toni, you could rest assure that you were going to hear the Oldies But Goodies of the Motown sound; where you would see her singing and hand dancing. Toni also loved her collection of Swans and Black Angels that you would see in her curio display called Toni’s Treasures. Toni has been a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Her pride and joy are her sons. When you came around, you can feel the love; and it was returned back to her from the support and honor Marco and Mike gave her. Toni accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of the Memorial Baptist Church where she fellowshipped until her health failed. She loved the old gospel greats like “Precious Lord” and “Going Up Yonder.” Her last words to share with family were, “Don’t cry for me because I am indeed ready to go home to be with the LORD.” She fought a good fight and finished the race, and now a crown awaits her in Glory. On June 22, 2013, God called her home to rest. Left to cherish her memory are: her sons, Michael Epps and Marco Epps; one stepdaughter, Thelma “Wendy” Epps Blake; six grandchildren, DaJanique, Bria, Michael Jr., Jacob, Elijah and Christopher; two sisters, Dr. Ditra S. Scruggs and Renee Stanford; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lovingly submitted,
