Phillip Jackson

Our cherished and beloved Phillip Jackson, “Phil” 64, passed away on August 17, 2015 going to the pearly gates of heaven. He was born to the late Viola Faines Jackson and William Crews in Baltimore, Maryland on January 25, 1951. His sister Carolyn Jackson Duff preceded him in death. In 1954, when Phillip was 3, his parents moved the family to Richmond, Virginia. It was in Richmond where, at an early age, he was baptized. He also received his education in the Richmond Public School System. Phillip enlisted in the United States Army. For his tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge August 8, 1974. After his Army career, he was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a custodial worker. Phil was a dedicated employee who was highly respected. He retired from the Veterans Affairs, January 14, 2012 due to his failing health. Phil was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. He was also a very loving and giving person of faith. He cared deeply for his family, friends and all of his loved ones. Even though his spirit was quite reserved, he had a jovial nature and was the light of his family. Phil was a true reflection of God’s love — nurturing gentleness, kind and generous spirit — who was always willing to listen, encourage and help others in need. He was a life-long learner of cars, quick-witted and curious about any new or challenging endeavor. Phil will be remembered for his spontaneity and love of fixing cars. One of the many hobbies he enjoyed was always keeping his car up-to-date. Phil’s impeccable style of clothing was his signature trademark. Phil was loved and admired by all who knew him and leaves to cherish memories to three loving brothers, James Jackson of Richmond, Virginia, Douglas Jackson (Littsia) and Dennis Jackson, of Riverhead, New York; caring sister, Gloria Jackson (Edward) of West Babylon, New York; host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; special love and affection for a devoted niece, Kim Williams Bryant of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his devoted friend, Betty J.
