Phillip Gus Jackson

Phillip Gus Jackson, the son of the late Willie and Josephine Bowles Jackson, was born in Charleston County, South Carolina on February 17, 1928. He departed this life on August 31, 2002. At an early age, he became a member of Second Zion Baptist Church in Brown Younges Island, South Carolina. Phillip Gus Jackson was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Genieve Jackson. From this union there were two children. Later in life, Genieve preceded him in death, due to heart problems. Within the years to come, Phillip Gus Jackson was later joined in Holy Matrimony to Naomi Pierce Jackson. There were no children from this union. “Gus” was a beautiful and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and confidant. In his life, no sacrifice was too great if it benefited his family and friends or if some just needed his help. He gave wholeheartedly and asked for nothing in return. He displayed a warm smile and a genuine love for everyone that crossed his path. Phillip Gus Jackson was fondly known to many as “Jack.” Gus joined the Olivet Baptist Church and was a faithful member until God called him home. He received his early education in the Charleston County Public Schools. He was employed by the Baltimore City Department of Public Works for forty years and worked at USF&G for over twenty-five years. He retired from both jobs in 1990. One of his favorite pastimes was to walk every morning.He leaves to mourn: a devoted wife, Naomi Pierce Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. Wilhelmina G. Johnson and Carrie M. Livingston; two sons-in-law, Kenneth D. Johnson and Kisey Livingston of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Sadie Polite of Younges Island, South Carolina, Mrs. Ellen J. Ellebee of Charleston, South Carolina and Mrs. Janie Gathers of Younges Island, South Carolina; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Wilhelmina B. Gathers of Younges Island, South Carolina, Mrs. Daisy Ridman and Mrs. Betty Dent of New York City and Mrs. Janie Whitley of Carrollton, Virginia; three brothers-in-law, Carl L. Youngblood, Herbert Youngblood and Ernest Youngblood of New York City; three granddaughters, Cheri M. Johnson, Lakeshia M. Johnson and Tanya N. Livingston of Baltimore, Maryland; two great granddaughters, Sachena Richardson and Anjanae Fulmore; one great-grandson, Mayan Phillip Greene; and a host of nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
