Peter J Griffin

Peter Jackson Griffin II. Son of John Messiah and Theresa Elizabeth (Morgan) Griffin, was born on February 28, 1952 in Richmond, Virginia. He departed this earthly life suddenly on September 28, 2022, at his home where he lived with his son Gregory. He received his early education in North Carolina and then in the Baltimore City Public School System, including graduating high school from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1959, where he was among the First African-American students to desegregate the school. He began working at the US Postal Service in 1970, while attending Morgan State University, before going to the Army in 1972. He proudly served his Post office until he retired in 2006, after over 40 years of service. On March 17, 1973, Peter married Karen Elizabeth Lonesome. From this union two beautiful sons, Peter Jackson Griffin, III and Gregory Kenneth Griffin, were born. Peter was a true family man who loved sports, the outdoors, good food, and childhood memories of living in the south with siblings and parents. As a teenager, he and his brothers often played neighborhood pick up football games, with Peter at quarterback! Later, he took his young sons on summer road trips to North Carolina so they could connect to their roots. As a young man, he truly enjoyed spending holidays and special occasions with his brothers, sister, nieces, and nephews. You could always find him at family reunions, birthday parties, fishing trips, vacations, and backyard barbeques, enjoying it all. He had a cool demeanor, quiet strength, and warm heart that will live on forever. Dad, uncle Pete, Pop Pete was loved by many, including the lonesome, Gorham, Baily, and Alston families. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and a dear sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Robert Gorham. He leaves to cherish his memory, Karen, his four sons Peter and Gregory; grandchildren Dominic, Leia and Peter Griffin; brothers John M. Griffin, Jr. and Vaughn A. Griffin; daughter-in-law Kenya Griffin; bothers-in-law Earl and Paul Lonesome; sisters-in-law Geri Griffin, Dawnette Sodipo and Marie Lonesome, nieces, nephews, many cousins, and dear friends.
