Paul T Smith

PAUL THOMAS SMITH was born on March 9, 1960, to Paul Smith, and Elswiter (Aunt Girly) Easy in Jamaica, West Indies. Paul departed this earthly life after a brief illness on March 12, 2026. He just celebrated his 66th birthday. Paul migrated to the United States at a young age and attended the Baltimore City Public School System. He was an extremely smart and intelligent young man graduating with honors from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and then attending Coppin State College in pursue of an engineering degree. Paul loved science, he loved news and he loved exploring. He loved to investigate new things. Paul loved to listen to Motown music, particularly that of the Jackson Five. Many people would often see Paul and recognize him from his journeys around town, but his most recent pastime was watching the news and smoking a good cigar. Yes, we all know he loved his cigarettes, but a good evening cigar put a smile on his face. He also loved a good Orioles game. Paul was a long-time member of the Prince of Peace Baptist Church until his health interrupted his attendance. Paul looked forward to his daily attendance at the Haven Center Day Program. On the day of his passing, he was up dressed and ready to go! He had his routine and he stuck to it, but God had other plans for him. For many years Paul was the primary caregiver for his mother until she needed more supervision. As Paul demonstrated the need for care for himself, he was provided with that love from his cousins Humphrey and Claretha Johnson, who took care of both mother and son. As his mother’s health continued to decline, they promised their Aunt Girly that they would ensure Paul’s care and safety. There was not a day that Paul questioned their loyalty and love. While he did not always see eye to eye with some of us, he never questioned the authority and love from his beloved caretakers. He particularly loved his Claretha whom he affectionately called “Cee”. He would do anything for her. On the morning of his passing his last words were “I love you Cee, I’m going to be OK.” Paul was preceded in life by his mother (2019) and father (1990s) and was an only child from this union. Paul never married or had children but leaves to cherish his fond memory, a host of family and friends, but most importantly his beloved cousins Humphrey and Claretha Johnson. To them, we the family owe a debt of gratitude. Thank you both
