Patricia Anne Gilbert

Legacy of Love Patricia Anne Artis-Gilbert was born on April 4, 1962, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Zeb Artis and Alice Mae Turner. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Alice Mae “Pookie,” and her parents. Patricia was educated in the Richmond Public School System and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She later furthered her education at Rutledge College in Richmond. At an early age, Patricia accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church. She dedicated over 40 years of service to Wendy’s Corporation, where she worked as a manager and formed lifelong bonds with coworkers and friends. Patricia was the heart of her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, fiercely protective and deeply devoted. She loved her family beyond measure—and though her love came wrapped in bold words and an outspoken nature, it was always genuine. As she often said exactly what she thought, she could hit a nerve, but to know her was to love her. She was the rock of the family and will be missed profoundly. In her final weeks, she comforted her family with the words: “Don’t cry. I have cried enough for all of us. Remember me as I was, and no matter what, I will always be around.” Patricia enjoyed life fully—dancing, playing cards, watching football, cheering for her Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with her two cherished fur babies, “Missy” and “O.” She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: her devoted daughter, Azi Artis (Ebony); adored grandchildren, My-Asia Artis, Diamond Pleasant, and De-Quan Pleasant; loving sisters, Annette Artis, Paulette Artis, and Jeanette Artis; brothers, Zeb Artis, Paul Artis, and Kenneth Artis; bonus sisters, Cece and Charlene Smith; three godchildren, Charday Smith, Jasmine Mason, and Sheeba Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friends, Linda Anderson and Mary Wyatt; along with many others whose lives she touched. Patricia will be remembered for her humor, her strength, her bold spirit, and above all, the love she gave so freely to her family and friends.
