Palma O. Hampton

God in his infinite wisdom invited Palma into the kingdom, on Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2003.Palma Queen Esther Witherspoon Hampton, age 70, passed at her residence, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born in Clarendon County, South Carolina, January 15, 1933. She was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Martin and Mary (Brayboy) Witherspoon. Palma was educated in the public schools in South Carolina and Baltimore, Maryland. She married the late Mack Lee Hampton, Sr. Palma was employed as an agricultural worker, domestic technician, restaurant owner/manager and a foster parent to more than fifteen children. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, singing the gospels, other hobbies and spending time with family and friends.Palma was a member of the First Charity Baptist Church for more than forty years. She was an active participant in numerous church activities including the Senior Choir and the Gospel Chorus. Palma was the founder and lead singer of the Stars of Charity, a gospel group that she also managed for the Stars of Charity, a gospel group that she also managed for twenty years. Palma sang with several other gospel groups in the Baltimore area as well. She was also a member of the United Order of Tents.Palma leaves to mourn her passing and testify to some of her accomplishments ten children: Rosie Hampton Griffith, Mary Hampton, Diane Hampton McPherson, Gladys Hampton, Sarah Hampton Dobson, Palma Ann Hampton, Mack Lee Hampton, Jr., David Baker, Victoria Johnson and Johnnie Johnson; two son-in-laws, Dr. Eric Dobson and Rickie Griffith; one daughter-in-law, Latrise Johnson; grandson, Craig Fleming and twenty-six other grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Bealin Witherspoon; four sisters, Odell McCown, Lilaree Witherspoon, Albert Witherspoon Rush and Carrie Witherspoon; seven sister-in-laws, Lena Witherspoon, Salima Witherspoon, Elsie Witherspoon, Lilly McFadden, Sarah Hampton, Rosa Hampton, Christine Warren; two special nieces, Emma Durham and Elise Witherspoon; three god children, Lynnette Durham, Sherry Jones and Wanda Hudson; nephew, Willie Joe Witherspoon; special friends, Gladys Moore, Dorothy Bell, Josephine Whitfield, Sister Jessie Ruth, Bessie Whitley and a host of other relatives and friends.
